The matchmaking, however, is fuzzy bunny awful. I think many others can attest to this. It seems that it's coded to 'autobalance' by rank rather than by KDR or any meaningful common sense practice... leading to NEARLY EVERY (I'd guess like 4/5 or even 9/10) game being completely one-sided. It's not a fight when your team of 5 has three new players who don't even know how to do objectives, even after you spam in chat 'PLEASE STAND INSIDE THE AA' over and over.

Just take a look at your Siege win/loss statistics and tell us if there's a huge margin of one-sided dominations. Because if that's true, as I feel it very much is, you guys need to fix this game-breaking matchmaking.

Otherwise, keep up the good work. I come back every few months to check on Hawken. (I've donated)

PS: Consider slightly nerfing berserker damage and slightly beefing predator flak cannon damage, that gun is garbage-tier awful.]]>

For instance by just posting a brief note on the producer's twitter space. Just an idea though. The FL issue is quite a negative step back in the HAWKEN' scene.

Farewell https://community.playhawken.com/topic/68413-farewell/
This game has been basically my life for a few years and my work with it landed me a great job, but the stress the game's state and community has been putting on me is too much, so I need to just get away for good. I will leave scrimbot online, in the hopes that chat comes back up. If it does not, use Shadeness' sexy app instead (I will still help him with it).

I will still hang out in the IRC, so you can still catch me there.

Farewell. Hopefully I'll see some of you guys around elsewhere in other games or other places. <3

A Hawken Story - A positive one :-) https://community.playhawken.com/topic/68403-a-hawken-story-a-positive-one/
I believe this game is special and hope it survives in one form or another.

I was never attracted to the F2P model and only feel it works for me when there is an option for a subscription as with Planetside 2 as an example.

The way I look at it currently, I was drawn in by the Steam offer and also bought the smaller 'package' for my two Nephews.

In total I have spent less than £50 not just on the game but including the soundtrack and the graphic novels/comics. I believe that to be pretty good value these days. For the number of hours I have logged, I feel comfortable with what I have spent.

It is a shame that player count is low when I get chance to play but the East Coast US servers have always had games I could join, even if the EU servers did not.

The learning curve is steep and I am glad that it is that way. I have even become accustomed to the MM...well almost...

A good game with great potential. Fingers crossed.]]>

The hawken commuinty is very positive and Like to get your guys oppinions on things that we could do to get and keep more players. This could be sugestions to devs or direct support from us .

Smurf acounts are a not a good idea becauese you are higher mmr but you are just stomping new players that might not come back.

Giving new players advice if you see them doing somthing wrong if done in a congenital maner could help players improve and stick around.

Negativity in all its forms is counterproductive to gaining a player base.

What do you guys think could pull in new players or what could we do as a group to incurage new plaers to play and stay ?]]>

1 Never feed a death ball ... stop blindly running into 3 or more enemys please.

2 Every mech in this game benefits from positional defence. For the love of god. If you see somone on radar comeing around a conner. ( take cover)

4 If you see a teamate taking dammage you can be sure the other guy is taking dammage too. A soft target is a easy target. Go kill them. Do not let them kill and run and repair.

5 A team that assists and supports each other wins. Team lonewolf will always die more and loose.

6 Radar is not the only way to locate the enemy. Most weapons are trackable meaning you can see were they are comming from. Use this as a indicater where to focus fire when in doubt.

7 Stay in a loose formation. Loose not on top of each other. There are really only a couple of mechs that benefit from solo work. pred, ss are the ones that come to mind.

8 Stop walking in front of people shooting You are just causing them to dammage themselves, and acutely working against your team. If a teamate is pred genadeier incinerator or like walk around Them do not boost into there line of sight .

9 Stop boosting it keeps you off radar. Boost when you need to get away or to reposition around that coner. Boosting is really a defencive move, use it as such. A well placed boost can spell death if you ninja it.

I am not saying you have to adopt a full support model. All I am saying backup your team. Second pick your targets wisely. Choose who and when to strike. Always flank if possable.

Lastly if you are lucky enough to get a good tech coperate with them ... aka do not run from them when you are almost dead. Or expect them to be your liferaft It is your job to doge reasonably. Second note if a tech goes red beam focus fire in their target. Especially when they use redox. Techs need back up more than any oneelse in game. Help them help you .

Give a cloaked pred or infi some space they do not want you fallowing them giving away their position or taking indirect fire because somone is shoting you.

I am sure there is more to add but I'll leave that to you guys.]]>

I keep running into increasingly frequent occasions where a certain polygon in the map is missing... or a missile from a silo... or parts of a mech. The most noticable is that I'm seeing a lot of mechs without legs or arms when viewing the after-match carousel.

If I'm alone in this, I must need to reinstall the game again. If not, I'm guessing this is just more negative results from a lack of server maintenance (like the failure of the friends list).]]>

Publicize MMR on the Hawken App? https://community.playhawken.com/topic/68387-publicize-mmr-on-the-hawken-app/
Check it out now if you haven't already:
http://hawken.herokuapp.com/
http://hawken.heroku.../user/Shadeness

It fuzzy bunny the snot out of the in game server browser, allowing you to filter by nearly anything. People who poke around in it can view a server's average MMR. It shows who's on a server you click on. Every user has their own page listing their mechs. Yep that's right, your mech names are now public.

Now that the friends list is down, KOing ScrimBot, there's no way for a user to find out their MMR. *gasp* Some people have asked if I could add this feature to the Hawken App.

First off, you can see your MMR rounded to ~100 if you join an empty server. But what about decimal points and precision?!

So it's come to this. Should I publicly add everyone's MMR in the Hawken App?
Every user's MMR will be public. Even mine.

Edit: Belay that. Yesterday's discussion about publicizing mech names caused me to realize I could use them as an authentication method. I made a quick update that checks if a user has a mech called PublicMMR. If it finds one, your MMR will be public.

I hate aimbots and wallhacks https://community.playhawken.com/topic/68380-i-hate-aimbots-and-wallhacks/
So tell me how an assault mech tracks a pred through walls. He fired as soon as he turned the corner. I was stationary against a wall watching.

I'm noticing it a lot more now that the devs are "away". Seems like everyday there's one or two people running around using hax. What I'm a little surprised at is the number of people using it on mechs other than snipers. This assault user is just one in a string of many I've seen recently using sustained fire mechs and obviously wall hax.

Again, I've been around long enough to know when something isn't right. I'm also noticing that things get laggy/buggy when there's someone using this stuff.

Honestly, I'm going to be done now for a while again. To me, this just ruins it. Some lame arse who can't play the game without a cheat has to ruin things for everyone. If you use this stuff, I hope you sleep well at night knowing what kind of a pathetic looser you are that you have to resort to cheating to win at a form of entertainment.

new mech: Tesla https://community.playhawken.com/topic/68374-new-mech-tesla/
Lore:
A very efficient nuclear fusion reactor has just been invented by Sentium, Sentium tried to put it in a mech, but that mech had a whole lot of spare power, so they put some tesla coils on there to use that spare power as a weapon. They found a Tesla very effective for crowd control. Using it`s large tesla coil, it zapped all enemies around it for tenths of meters.

Role: "Shocking Supressor"
Class: C
Armor: 820
Ground speed: 14 m/s
Acceleration: 29,5 m/s2
Air speed: 9,8 m/s
Thruster Vertical speed: 9 m/s
Fuel Tank capacity: 90 L
Fuel Regen: 10 L/s
Dodge delay: 1,4s
Radar range: 120 m
Overheat recovery time: 4,6s
EU capacity: 250

Weapons:
Primary: tesla coil:
 • 1 bolt of lightning per second.
 • little bit of aim assist.
 • chain lightning(if an enemy is hit and an enemy is near it, the enemy next to it will get 50% of the damage the first enemy gets, if an enemy is next to that enemy and it was not an enemy hit before, he will get 25% of the damage the first enemy gets and so on towards infinity).
 • deals 50 damage per hit on the first enemy.
Secondary: tesla coil:
 • 1 bolt of lightning per second.
 • little bit of aim assist.
 • chain lightning(if an enemy is hit and an enemy is near it, the enemy next to it will get 50% of the damage the first enemy gets, if an enemy is next to that enemy and it was not an enemy hit before, he will get 25% of the damage the first enemy gets and so on towards infinity).
 • deals 50 damage on first hit.
Secondary weapon ability: none

Starter item: Heat Charge.

Mech ability: Tesla shock:

<![CDATA[jabuto's mech ideas]]> https://community.playhawken.com/topic/68369-jabutos-mech-ideas/
So first of all i want to say that want to avoid copying as much as possible. What it means is that when i create new mech idea, it is not copy of any new mech existing already. No new heavy snipers, no new predators etc, expect if they have something very special which makes them unique. You will see what i mean when you read the ideas. You haven't seen anything like them in game right? (Note that i have not read any forum posts so if there is your mech idea, it is a 100% coincidence)

===WARPER===
Class: c
Short desc: heavy surpriser
Job: supressor, defender

Desc: since teleportation have been reached, both prosk and sentium have tried to obtain it in smaller scale, to import it to mech. After a time including deaths, explosions and scrapped metal, prosk obtained it. Somehow. Now warper hunts it's prey with horryfying close-combat surprise attacks. If you feel that you are alone, watch your back for warper.

Armor: 760
Fuel tank: small
Fuel regen: high
Speed: average c-class

Primary: assault rifle
Secondary: point-d-vulcan
Alt primary: sub-machine gun
Alt secondary: flak cannon

Ability: warpjump
Works only when pointing at any mech. You instantly teleport next to target. Unlimited range, only requiment is that there is another mech to point at. 25s. Cooldown. Weapons are paralyzed for 0.5s. After warpjump.

===VALKYR===
class: a
Short desc: one-mech mass hysteria
Job: assault

Desc: since prosk obtained warper, sentium failed making their own version of it. But what could be good against surprise attack? A suprise defend. Sentium made mech to use holograms to cause mass hysteria to enemy lines and survive attacks as well. If you are going to attack a valkyr, you should prepare to tough fight.

Armor: 300
Fuel tank: average
Fuel regen: average
Speed: average a-class

Primary: sub-machine gun
Secondary: tow rocket
Alt primary: assault rifle
Atl secondary: miniflak

Ability: Hysteria
Valkyr generates 5 moving holograms of itself, causing literally an hysteria. Holorgrams move like ai bots do and they follor it's user. They do attack animation at enemy and some light show to look like real, but they won't damage any enemy. They disappear after 7 seconds. Cooldown of 35s. They have as well properties of real holograms, as hellfires etc lock at them and so on.

===SHOCKER===

Class: a
Short desc: paralyzer vechile
Job: assault, supressor

Desc: fragments of this old mech are found in battlefields all around world. No one knows who has built it, but everyone knows how effective it is. Forgotten for long time till now both prosk and sentium have tried to construct it again to it's shiny stage where it originally was. No matter who enemy mech is, in short range, shocker can fill it's enemy with paralyzing fear.

Armor: 250
Fuel tank: average
Fuel regen: high
Speed: high (not as high as scout)

Primary: miniflak
Secondary: grenade launcher
Alt primary: assault rifle
Alt secondary: tow rocket

Ability: Disarm
Shocker does shockwave in area of 6m. All weapons of enemies on range will be disarmer for 2 seconds. Unlimited targets but all of them must be at least half of an mech inside tthe range. Shocker is unable to attack for 0.5 seconds after cast.

So these are my little ideas i have finished so far, i have more unfinished that i will publish when they are ready. Tell your toughts in comments.

Now with our virus and bot plauging them, we will rise from the ashes of our company, and elimate them without mercy. We now only have one objective: The total destruction of Prosk and Sentium.

My first issue was at login where the cursor was stuck going left, couldn't even type in my password.

From a steam guide I decided to try the updated 32 bit libraries and now x360ce still recognizes the G13 but I get nothing when in game.

So, anybody have luck with x360ce and Hawken?]]>

It was pretty glorious: Just having a good match in a Grenadier (a first for me) and this guy begins raging full tilt. I didn't even know he was yelling at me until the match was over and he started inserting my name into it. So everyone, including me is like, "What hacks does a guy use in a Grenadier man? What do you think he's doing?" That just brought on his deep and wordly knowlege of me as he announced that I was a Nigerian fa**ot hack monkey and so forth.

So, I can't resist a good time, right? So I send him a friend request.
All night, it's been a non-stop stream of messages about how he's gonna have my acct. banned and how I'll wish I never messed with him... the things he's done to my mom... the usual. I don't even reply and they keep on coming.

I think I must finally be doing something right in Hawken. :D]]>

So, am I alone on this one? https://community.playhawken.com/topic/68321-so-am-i-alone-on-this-one/
Yes, I know that keyboard and mouse are better and yes, I know that the mouse is easier to aim than the analog sticks on a controller but I just can't get used to it. All other games other than Hawken, I find it absolutely fine to adapt to keyboard and mouse. But not Hawken. I've never ever played a game which requires you to mash a key so consistantly (the boost key) while also aiming and shooting and monitoring your map and looking at your heat and...

Needless to say, I think this is why I found it so hard to adapt to the game from my usual console games (yes, I know, PC master race and all...you're not gonna get an arguement out of me). This game is hardcore.

Am I the only one who had a hard time adapting to the game from my usual other games and/or is using a console controller in the game? And to those who have tried both, is there a massive difference between aiming with a controller and aiming with a mouse when it comes to accuracy?]]>

if it was ilke t his, I would treat hawken like doing dailies. which are still fun, but it has a nice little hook to it with a bait. to feel mentally obligated to keep playing to get a tiny reward is a business strategy that's been helping many games stay afloat.

incentives to gain up to 25 MC a day is very enticing. Even I would do it, if it means putting in 4-5 hours a day. lol... or 2-3..

Mech idea: Astro https://community.playhawken.com/topic/68311-mech-idea-astro/
Originally designed for mining distant orbiting asteroids the heavy Astro is equipped with gravity manipulating technology. Though it lacks the armor of other C class mech it makes up for it in its ability to shut down A class mechs that are known for their speed. It does this with with its special ability GRAVITY TRAP. This ability projects a field of energy that decreases enemy mechs ability to fly and boost out of its clutches. finally you will be able to bring a world(or asteroid) of hurt down upon that slippery little berserk or scout. And if that wasn't enough it is also equip with its special density cannon as its secondary weapon. This cannon fires a slow yet powerful blast that deals damage to mechs on direct hit but if detonated early it creates a shock wave powerful enough to displace even the heaviest of mechs. So if you want to bring the gravitational pain the Astro is right for you.]]>

Right, now that we have that out of the way, time for business.

The event will take place every Saturday on nocturnal-instinct.eu. There will be guest teachers every week starting tomorrow 18/10/14. We will also play on US servers, and lag shouldn't be a problem because we're here to learn how to git gud, not pnw nubs. There'll be plenty of time for that later.

The Orb Meta https://community.playhawken.com/topic/68302-the-orb-meta/ Orbs! Orbs everywhere!

The purpose of this thread is to simply bring to the table a few observations I have made in Hawken as of late, and perhaps to promote a discussion of the pros/cons of this new (or is it old?) build I have noticed sprouting up throughout some of the top tier players.

I refer this build as the 'hestoned' build, as he was the first person I seen to really push this build to the limit. It consists of the following internal comp.: adv. repair kit, extract, (insert random slot internal), with of course Mk.3 orbs (the more the better).

I switched to this setup on all of my mechs (removing the AC, which was a tear jerking process), and have taught myself how to properly play using only ground movement and the occasional jump and hover. What have I noticed? It's ludicrous. The hp regen is high, and you can virtually beat anyone in a 1v1 open-fight assuming you dropped your own orb at the appropriate time, your aim is adequate, and if your opponent isn't sitting on a orb as well. It's also incredibly useful in team scenarios as you can orb hop and maintain momentum with your pushes, as opposed to finding a dark corner and pressing C.

It is a powerful setup and if you haven't tried it I recommend you muster up the courage and give it a go yourself.]]>

Siege balance is too fragile https://community.playhawken.com/topic/68300-siege-balance-is-too-fragile/
One player can make a huge impact on some games. There is one player that I've run into a few times now that just stands on the base and waits for ships to shoot at. I have absolutely no idea how he/she get's any enjoyment at all out of playing like that, but it basically screws whatever team he/she's on.

Then there's the tech... I was on a loosing team the other day and it was pretty obvious we were going to loose. Then I realized there were no techs in the match so I ran one for our team. Not saying I won the game for our team, but we did end up winning a game that we should have lost. We controlled the AA from that point on. The other team never put up a tech on their side and couldn't break our heavy/tech combo. I think the score was double digits (62 or something) - 0.

All it takes is a slight imbalance to throw a game. One or two players that either don't understand the mechanic or simply aren't good at all against a team w/ good players and it's just boring. Campers/snipers (including preds) play a role in unbalanced siege games too. When you need bodies in the AA and you've got 3 reapers hanging off in the distance picking at the other team on the AA and they've got 5 people in there, you're basically not going to have a good time. It always becomes a 5 v 2 or 5 v 1 scenario at the AA and we all know how those odds play out. Being on the winning side is boring on these games and being on the loosing side is just frustrating.

I know this has all been hashed out before and I'm probably preaching to the choir here, but just have to vent.]]>

MY IDEA IS. Give the origanal poster the option on the threads he or she starts to self regulate and deleat post that do not stay on topic or are just troll trying to derail a perfectly good thread.

A personal look back on Hawken (likes/dislikes) https://community.playhawken.com/topic/68291-a-personal-look-back-on-hawken-likesdislikes/
Things I do not miss from Older Hawken:
 • Vertical Power Progression
 • Old super radar
 • Old emp mechanic
 • Unlimited use items
 • Old balancing
Things I do miss from Older Hawken:
 • Risk vs Reward
 • Positive AND Negative attributes on items
 • Less air control
 • Healing mechanics/No Tech
 • Longer TTK
I guess I will start with the things I do not miss.

Vertical Power Progression(VPP):
There have been many forms of this over the years and it was HIGHLY engrained into the game in the beginning. Back then, Pilots would level up to level 20 for max level. There was not a separation of mech level and pilot level yet. And as you leveled up you gained more in terms of small buffs to your mech directly from leveling and then indirectly from the skill tree that existed back then. Later the skill tree was highly nerfed into the ground after they realized a lvl 1 pilot could barely put up a fight vs even a crappy lvl 20 pilot. Thus came Ascension and the nerfed skill tree was turned sideways and nothing had really changed as the VPP was still there. Later the whole concept was ditched and each mech became much more unique because of it. So while it was rough to go through that, the end result is actually nice. Unique mechs that have differences on minor levels but could be played out differently depending on play style. Sadly the VPP still has yet to be removed from Hawken on a whole. It is in the best place it has ever been, but some things like item level requirements are still around sadly.

I also want to make it clear I was, at the time, a huge fan of Horizontal Power Progression. But that was more because I knew the developers wanted some sort of leveling scheme. As in their mind that helps hold people to playing the game through tedious means. Sadly, even though that isn't my style.. it is semi true so I was attempting to think within their parameters. Personally I prefer having everything be available from the start and everyone have the ability to be on equal grounds at all times. That just isn't a thing anymore really with the way games/players have changed over the years. I am a relic of the old in that way.

The Old Radar:
My god it was HUGE. Heck even back in closed beta you would extend it even farther and see nearly the whole map at all times. Thankfully they reeled it in quite substantially. Sadly at this point in the game, I think an overhaul to the even current radar is needed. They could increase the range while decreasing what is shown on it. That is, the only time enemies are shown is when they fire their weapons or if things like enemy turrets fire up. Thus this does a few things. It helps eliminate stalemates around corners by allowing people to maneuver without being seen while also allowing people to spread out more while still seeing where their team actually is. Thus a lot more mobility is an option for the game and one has less a feel of needing to be near each other.

Now this isn't saying I want to see teamwork go away, I just want to see it change from deathballs to coordinated strikes. This was FAR more prevalent in the old Hawken with the longer TTK. One team would be attempting to hold a choke point while the other would either force their way through it and/or send a small force around to flank and pincer the enemy team. It resulted in a lot more interesting game play over all. Granted they had time to do this because the TTK was a lot longer back then.

The Old EMP design:
Oh thank god it is what it is today. I cannot fully explain how horrible it was in the beginning. Granted I am still not a fan of a CC in a fps, but never the less it is apart of the game. And after much goading by the community it finally is in a good spot. But to give someone an idea, the old EMP had a radius the size of some smaller states. The visual queue was basically half the size of the actual EMP range. Later they fixed the difference in visual vs actual and it was still too easy to use and abuse. You could easily chain CC a person and wipe out a team quickly. Thankfully it is much harder to aim now and not as long of a CC either. Glad for this change.

Unlimited use items:
One of the worst concepts I've seen come about. It turned some items into things that would and could just be abused. Think of having unlimited powerful items and one shudders at the thought. At first it felt liberating because we had 1 use items and we had to seriously be wise about how we spent them. Then to have the ability to use the item repeatedly on a very minor cool down... oh my! Sadly it was far too short of a CD on item use. While the concept could have been better if they had 3-5 min CDs.. it wasn't something they wanted to do. So you could constantly spam them with no worries because they would be up again by the time another big fight broke out. It was an attempt to be more like LoL/Dota in terms of having something like flash being down, just not quite fleshed out properly at the time.

Old Balancing:
Poke was god and certain weapons in general could do stupid things. Such as the rev_gl causing people to be rooted in place on the ground, the hellfires being able to turn on a millimeter and hit someone that just dodged them, the vulcan ripping people apart in no time even back when the ttk was bigger, etc.

The game has had a TON of balancing done to it over the years and for the majority of it... they ended up in a good spot. Personally I'd like to see poke be more relevant in today's game but I don't see how they can do that when a mech can heal up to full in under 5 seconds.

__________________________
And now onto the things I do miss.

Risk vs Reward:
That is to say, this was semi part of balancing. While I like the fact the game has made sustain fire far better than it was in the beginning, I feel they went too far. With the combination of quick heals, lowered burst dmg and an increase in sustain being important.. poke dmg really just doesn't fit well into the current game. That is.. I miss higher burst dmg at the cost of missing meant I would be put in a seriously bad position for winning the fight. I miss the days that weapons had more variety in time between shots. The developers have seriously degraded the options and made things more universal in nature. This was the result of issues with being able to instantly kill someone through combinations of abilities. There was a multitude of things causing this issue.
 • Unlimited use items
 • A couple items causing too much dmg for being items
 • A couple abilities being too strong
 • The actual interesting option of burst vs sustain dmg
So what they did to fix it was to remove some of the burst options on weapons. Then they reduced the items damage and ability power. Then they reduced the number of times you can use an item and further nerfed the highs of possible dmg on weapons and items.

Which the main issue that caused all of this was the first 3 and not the last. Which is what they changed first. If they would have changed the items back to limited use, that alone would have put a serious crack down on the abuse of instant gibbing someone. If they would have also adjusted the items power down as well during this it would have nearly wiped out all options to instant gib even an A class at that time. Toss on a couple ability changes and it would have been gone completely.

Sadly the route they went, in my mind, wasn't the best choice. As things were far more interesting to me by having actually interesting choices between my style of play on the mech. Do I go for the high skill weapons or the lower skill weapons? Am I on point today or am I a bit off and will be more consistent with the less risk weapons. Interesting choices to me at least. They also would have to adjust poke some more as currently the game does not play well with it anymore. But that probably will get covered more when I hit my miss of the old TTK.

+ and - Attributes on items:
Back in the day if you chose to use an item, it also took something away from you. If you wanted more damage, you would also get more heat. If you wanted more fuel, you would lose armor. I cannot really remember the positive and negative options on the items anymore. It was so long ago that honestly it eludes me to remember them. But I LOVED the idea that my choices came with me having to balance my positive and negative issues. Right now the only thing one needs to consider now is how much limited space you have to use to gather what you want. While it is also interesting its own way. It simply isn't as interesting as saying, if you want Air Dodge it also takes up fuel consumption. Thus you expend fuel at a higher rate but get the ability to dodge as well. Thus now it isn't a straight up gain, it is a style of play you need to consider. Not to say I am a fan of air dodge, but it was an easy way to explain what I am getting at.

As it stands, there could be a lot more creativity in the items. As they had a lot more potential back in the day.

Less Air Control:
Which leads me right into how back in closed beta and pre Ascension that if you jumped into the air, you were simply an easy target. Now do I miss those days? Yes and No.. I do enjoy the higher speed while moving in the air, thus it takes actually some skill to shoot someone in the air. But I don't think things like Air Dodge and longer times in the air help the game in any fashion. Again because there are zero negatives to taking Air Dodge you gain not only dodge in the air, but you also remove the worries of splash damage. Thus you actually remove parts of the game that were supposed to mean something. That is, some mechs were designed with the idea of Area of Denail, but which now are not nearly as useful. Also the longer time allowed to be in the air has cause issues with the way the maps were actually made in the beginning. Thus causing issues with movement across the maps and causing flow problems.

Now I am not saying it should completely go away. But I think it would have been better to introduce a mech that could do this rather than implement it so any mech could do this. Thus it brings a style of play option rather than a total meta change that destroys a lot of the foundation the game was built around. I would have loved to see a mech do this instead and it could have been a really neat option to have as a mech choice.

Healing Mechanics/No Tech:
Back in closed beta the only way to heal yourself was either through a long animation of self repair or through a healing orb you dropped on the ground. This really made you make choices on when you could and could not heal. Since you couldn't heal to full in 5 seconds, it took you 3 seconds to roughly get into the position to even start healing slowly. While I am SUPER happy about the fact that the self heal currently heals by % over a rough Armor per Sec, as that makes it fair to C class mechs, it is FAR to quick of a heal to do currently. You can easily run away and heal to full in no time flat now. Thus it hurts the use of many types of ways to break groups. Sadly the lower ttk has caused a LOT of these issues with the healing mechanics and I wasn't sure if I should just put this in with it or not.

What I can say is that while orbs did heal too much, the fact that they made you mostly immobile if you wanted the heal from them was actually a nice balance to the whole thing. Thus if someone dropped it in a fight, you had the choice to run or the choice to try and burst through it. You had choices either way and choices are what makes things interesting. Now healing orbs are really not nearly as useful as they once were to the point that even if you drop one while in a fight you still die nearly as fast. They are not even balanced in terms of being worth while compared to the other items we have to choose from at this point.

On the tech, I have to say after having it around as long as it has been... it hasn't helped the game because when they changed the meta to have a healer they never really supported a tank class. That is, a class that does less over all damage but can soak more damage. Instead the tech has failed because the devs started going down the route of a tank/healer/dps option and have since changed their minds. Thus leaving the tech as a stand out that doesn't make sense anymore. At first I had the impression of Hawken being similar to a MOBA but in a 1st person view and to be more flowing and just about the engagements and not silly mob management. Thus I was expecting C classes to get more buffed health or resistance options while losing some of their damage output and things to move down that line. Instead we have everyone doing roughly the same dmg, dying roughly in the same time and the only real thing being the difference is the speed at which they move. I find this to be lacking.

I think at this point the tech would be in a better place if it lost the ability to heal teammates, at least directly. I wouldn't mind seeing it keep its vampiric nature to keep it's unique play style. Thus drop the secondary heal option and turn the ability into giving all your teammates in X area the ability to life steal some health back based on the dmg they do as well and a small buff to your life steal during its use. Thus it increases your own self healing while also indirectly healing teammates that are being active in the fight, thus being a "support" style play. Obviously a little rework on the health/speed and such would need tweaked as well as the mech would be more aggressive in nature.

Longer TTK:
This is probably the thing I miss the MOST out of all the changes to the game to date. At first I was highly looking forward to the idea of a faster paced game. Then I came to understand it actually subtracted some of the difference in play between a good player and a bad player and that is all it really did. That and it HIGHLY punished stupidity in play and thus changed the general mindset of players to be far less aggressive in nature because it was far more punishing if you were not good. Thus this has lead to more camping, deathballs, less interesting play over all. The concept, in my mind, was that the devs wanted people to group up as much as possible while playing because it would be more interesting to see and easier to follow. Similar to games as LoL/Dota where in the beginning they have small skirmishes and by the end they have nothing but team fights with everyone together. Sadly FPS games don't operate in the same way as MOBA games do and it really doesn't work the same since it is done in a 3D environment and MOBAs work in 2D.

Ironically I believe the MASS majority of players at the time were calling for LONGER TTKs when they decided to go drastically in the opposite direction. I am not clear as to why that direction was taken, but my obvious guess would be that some market group said that gamers today want games like CoD where it is about reflexes and quick shots rather than interesting fights.

Sadly I miss those interesting fights. Where if you didn't kill the guy fast enough you were going to be fighting a 2v1 or worse because his team was going to get to him or he was going to get back to them. The best way I could describe the fights back then were they were dances. Elegant and beautiful fighting where each person was trying to out maneuver and out think his enemy while threading needles of shots and angles while someone would have an edge one second and lose it the next because of an outplay. It was intoxicating to me back then, and is absolutely why I fell in love with the game. Dancing between 3 enemies while killing them all with a thread of health left and controlling your heat issues... I cannot fully describe the joy it gave.

Summary:
While the current game isn't as enjoyable as it used to be for me, the community is still an amazing community. And I am glad to have stuck around while others have not. I just hope that at some point things get back on track for the game. And thank you for reading it all if you actually managed to do it =)]]>

Death Ballen , Why it happends and how to stop it. https://community.playhawken.com/topic/68286-death-ballen-why-it-happends-and-how-to-stop-it/
Yes every hawken player even the good ones have seen the squshy side of hawken boot.

Why does it happen ? What if anything can you do to stop and reverse it .

Reasons for the death ball

1 Pure skill defisite teams are not ballenced (fuzzy bunny happends) NOT MUCH CAN BE DONE IN THIS CASE. Except get better.

2 Utter lack of team work (LONE WOLF SYNDROME)

3 Running into traps 3 or 4 vs 1 ( no one in this game can take on 4 on 1 and come out alive.)

4 Too manny of one type of meck ( Two tech or two predators are not really a asset unless you both are incredible.) This also goes for all a class mecks on tdm vs a more rounded team with a , b and c mecks.

5 Inturnals and items some inturnals and items synergise very well with certen mechs add to that a skilled piolt and a tech. That will get the death ball rolling.

6 If one team has a tech and the other does not.

7 Running team formations to close where every one is steping on teammates and making it impossable to move efficacy.

8 A good incinerater running pappa and a shadow tech ( That is what I call a teck that stays in the shadow of a c class so it is difficult to hit them.

9 lack of commuinaction ( Not spotting enemys and calling them out) In game viop could solve this but what can you do.

10 The players are new and have not gotten into the swing of hawken have no inturnals. ( In this case cut them some slack give them some constructive advice and for gods sake do not alinate new players . We want to keep player base not alienate them. This in it self is relly important for the game and the
commuinty .

Well that is all I can think of off the top of my head if you think of any more please add them with a solution .

Want to stop the death ball ... my advice when a team gets 3 or more kills fast look at why .... and react if they have a tech kill him first and add a tech to your team.

If you have a bunch of yolo , lone wolfs ether do your best or leave the game. Personaly I stick around and try to support my team and commuinacate with them. I look at it as a learning experance and it has made me a better defencive support player.

If you assertain why the death ball in happing early and react you can reverse it that being said there are some games that can not be saved at a ceerten point.]]>

Well Australian playerbase has kinda dropped to just me and a few others but don't let that get you down!

Come and play at 9pm (AEST) every Saturday to meet new players and make friends with us Aussies! We're probably not as good as Xacius (people say he's good but I don't know) but perhaps you might meet your match while in a game with us at super high ping!

Prior to 9pm, around 10 minutes, I'll sit in death match and from there if enough players arrive and don't leave due to the high ping (I know its bad), we can perhaps move to TDM, MA or Siege.

There will be recording going on during the games and I honestly do try to upload as much as I can but many might find my videos boring due to lack of commentary or what ever makes a video good.

bEasts https://community.playhawken.com/topic/68269-beasts/ am happy to announce that my friends and I have decided to start a clan - The bEasts!!

Why bEasts?? Cuz' we are from the Eastern hemisphere (mostly)!!;)

Lets get to the specifics!
We are a clan which consists mostly (majority) of people in the Asian continent. No one is superior and there are no chiefs or presidents. Another thing about this group is that we have no rules except one :
- Each and every member of this clan must be a friend in-game.
This means that you have to be constantly updated with all the new members in this clan. When you see a new member, its your duty to add him as a friend in-game. Why you say?? The reason is pretty simple. When you see that some of the members in this clan are online, you can start a party and play! We will be holding events, so it is very important that every single member is a friend.

Clarifications
- Anyone can start a party. The chosen game mode will be through a quick poll. Democracy should be our middle name here.
- Whenever a member is free, He/She is free to post the time when they will be online so that others can find time to play with each other. HAWKEN is an MMO! So make use of it!
- Each member is free to be in other clans too. We don't expect much loyalty here. We are just a group of fellow pilots who look forward to have fun whenever we can. In fact, if both clans are online, just explain that you can't come and that you wish to play with the other clan! You can contact any member for that. But then, its the duty of that member to share that knowledge with those who are partying!
- We are partial towards Asian players as it will be easier to co-ordinate events as our time zones will be close. Pilots from other continents are welcome, but do understand that the time we follow will be IST (Indian Standard Time) or close!
- No trolling please! Trolling will not be tolerated.
- Be polite to fellow pilots. Do understand that we are from different cultures!!
- To become a member, just type in your steam username, where you are coming from and why you want to join this clan!

Is there any fix for this? I'm a low sensitivity gamer and it's borderline game-breaking for me.]]>

silence before the storm... https://community.playhawken.com/topic/68257-silence-before-the-storm/

I thought maybe all the silence from the devs would actually be about revamping the maps and testing them. Adding night maps( or cycle) and climate effects with fog lights? ^_^
12 vs12 games?

haha okay my wishes didn't change since Alpha phase. Thought I would start babling about stuff since the devs aren't there to answer.

Awful Players. https://community.playhawken.com/topic/68256-awful-players/
Let me ask you guys some questions about stuff that I've been seeing very often, and not liking...
What do you think about someone who keeps throwing EMP at you and running, even with full armour, just to annoy and provoke, all the time? Don't you think this is kind of an item abuse?

Or how about people that keep combining TEAM tactics on Deathmatch, and keep teaming up against you, including chasing you in group?

Personally, I think this is awful, not even a little decent atitude of a player.

What do you think about?]]>

<![CDATA[TPG, Hawken, E-Sports, Me, & You]]> https://community.playhawken.com/topic/68252-tpg-hawken-e-sports-me-you/ It was the first thing on my mind when I began playing Hawken a year ago, when I made an intro on BSB's forum

Spoiler

It's often been difficult to explain to the non-gamers (and a startling number of gamers) the attraction of such a past time.
Some time ago I happened into the smash bros documentary, which almost nailed it. It's something I share with enthusiasm to any who would be willing to watch it, and invite you to give it a looksee. Try to find the time to get through all the episodes (there are 9?), you won't regret it.

Also wanted to share a short talk this csgo nerd gave on the subject of e-sports
