This would be a much quicker fix to mismatched teams than trying to figure out a way to numerically balance various skill levels across time and mech level.  Effects and outcomes would be immediately apparent, and would prevent a great deal of the outright pubstomping you're seeing.  Better yet, it pleases both the casual crowd (avoids getting pubstomped) as well as the competitive crowd (gets to play with folks that don't suck).

I'm assuming this is a fuzzy bunny suggestion a few weeks away from open beta, but it seems like such an easy fix...outside of the technological backend, which I know nothing about.
