Should this be added_

Maybe an internal_
Possibly an optimization_

Never made sense much that it goes away but i get it in gameplay terms.

Would remove all the risk involved with shutting down your mech to repair.  Game breaker.

I see no real reason to add it, but I'd be fine seeing it as an internal.
If you'd rather have this situationally utility than something more universally useful, be my guest.

Not without some kind of balance, like not being able to break out of repairing for 5 seconds after starting (unless you finish before then).
Reason as my minor ego, and opposite my desire to be a murderer.
A coagulated, gloomy thinking in the intelligence, as my major ego.
An antinomian theorem of behaviorism, in all of my thinkings.
It's what we call "The Inversion Impulse."

If you want alerts when you are repairing use the Radar item, it will highlight and audio alert when people get near. Bam problem solved and it's situational.

That's what i mean, clearly your mech doesn't shut all the way down because these things still work.

It's would be nice to try out, see how it changed my playstyle. would obviously need to be balanced. Maybe a weaker radar range or only mechs that are firing...dunno

It's actually why I still run radar on my scout, too squishy to risk a tow when I am repairing without a spark to boost it so I usually put the radar in a nearby wall.

well, this has already been discussed enough, lol. Radar = part of the HUD. repairing = 3rd person, so not in the HUD

Personally, the ability to corner-peek while in repair's third-person makes up for the lack of radar.
