Did you run MemTest86 for at least an 8-hour loop_ You mentioned MemTestG80 (Which also should be run for at least an 8-hour loop) but nothing about MemTest86.

Two overnight tests with MemTest86 show no errors. I will be moving on to overnight tests with G80 next.

If that also passes, then all I can really say is that the OS and your video drivers seem to be fighting for some reason. Perhaps a Repair of the OS would be the next logical step at that rate.

Try downgrading your drivers one version_ I know on my nvidia card (which I recently replaced with a hand-me-down Radeon while I gather up the cash for a whole new machine), I updated the drivers to the latest stable version and then it all went to bunny. The display driver would crash (Windows goes to black screen, sits around twiddling its thumbs for two minutes while the graphics driver dies and restarts itself) constantly. Like, every thirty seconds (with a 90-120-second wait until it came back) in bursts when I wasn't doing anything particularly special at all, just sitting on the Windows desktop moving files around.

I had to downgrade two versions back, and then waited for the next release. The problems didn't come back with the next drivers after the buggy, broken ones. Nvidia has shipped buggy drivers before. It happens.

Looks to me like your system is unstable so I'd suggest you a couple of tasks in order to fix that up:

1.- Revise and clean you fans. GPU and CPU.

2.- Antivirus: Run a full system scan. Takes some time but it worth's the effort.

3.- Antispyware: Run a full scan as well.

And what the guys suggested you above, update system and drivers. But first, follow my advice and tell us if your system gets better or not. Luck with that!

This is a brand new system (it is highly unlikely Alienware sent me a new unit with a virus on it but checking these issues are on my list). Video drivers are up to date and as released from the factory (stepping down might be problematic). System only has this issue with one particular spot in the last release of Hawken (high probability there is a specific piece of code causing the crash). It did not crash in a match, only in the splash screen leading into a server and has been only on entry to TDM matches (similar location to losing sound on entry to TDM match).

Well, fingers crossed it doesn't happen in Open Beta.

Memtest G80 ran for eight plus hours with no errors (settings 1000 2000).

I also hope that it doesn't happen in OB along with the sound bug issue. See you there.

Okay, so we can rule out hardware faults. Hopefully Open Beta fixes it, and if not, maybe a repair OS installation will.

If not, maybe updating Visual C Runtimes, DirectX, etc.
