Specifically, the difference/absolute fuzzy bunny silliness that is MG versus Rocket turrets.
Since some people don't like to deal with theoreticals, let's get some actual data in here. Both examples come from our very own mikelat (who makes quality videos, in case you're jonesing for some Hawken gameplay).
MG Turret:
http://www.youtube.c...M4ftnwI#t=1m18s
From full health;
Deploys and starts firing at 1:21, stops targeting at 1:24, 3 seconds total.
675hp - 531hp = 144hp total.
144hp / 3 seconds = 48DPS.
12 damage per shot.
Rocket Turret:
http://www.youtube.c...Q9JFc8#t=19m25s
From full health;
Starts firing at 19:28, last shot fired at 19:33, 5 seconds total.
Only full contact hit = 45hp (@ 19:28). 3 shots fired.
45hp * 3 shots = 135 total potential damage.
135 damage / 5 seconds = 27DPS.
45 damage per shot.
---
Something is obviously amiss here. The MG turret does nearly twice the DPS of the Rocket turret, and is hitscan, and fires like the clappers ( 4 shots per second to the Rockets 0.6 per second). Since only one hit is necessary to highlight an opponent on radar, this makes the MG turret inherently more useful not only as supplemental damage but also as an early-warning system.
Proposal: Either reduce the damage on the MG turret, or increase the damage on the Rocket turret. Also, the Rocket turret may benefit significantly from a large increase to projectile speed and/or homing, given that its alternative has zero flight time currently.
Additional proposal: What about a third turret, Sabot. Long-range accurate, slow firing, large burst damage, very slow rotation rate (very low tracking)_

PS: The forums accepts embedded youtube links, but not links with timestamps on them. This is silly and should be fixed by the forum hamsters.
PPS: Further further proposal: Turrets should show up on the radar when firing, perhaps as smaller diameter red dots and/or other distinctive design. Turrets should only track/fire upon line-of-sight opponents (currently, they track through a variety of geometry/objects, including the AA dome structure).
