I thought of a good standby mode for those players who like a different challenge but aren't sure which to play...

Introducing the KING OF THE RING mode! {Gladiator Match}

You may be asking; "What exactly does a King of the Ring match entail_"
  • A small map large enough for a semi-spacious 2 mech battle
  • 8 player match queue {2 in match 6 spectators = short waits}
  • Match would begin with 2 mechs
  • The 2 mechs would square off and the survivor would be dubbed the 'King of the Ring'
  • Each win counts for a running total {killstreak} for the king.
  • The longer the king is in charge the better streak bonus awarded
  • The losing mech gets put in queue to square off again {in order of arrival to queue(re: Bottom of the players)}
  • Joining players would start at the bottom of the queue until their opportunity
  • Deployables would be refreshed @ double normal rate
  • Time between combatant death to next player entry would be long enough for the "King" to regenerate health only.
  • Exp and HC would be awarded and "bankrolled" {you take what you earn when you leave the queue]
  • If the King leaves, the last combatant takes the lead queue {goes twice {no streak bonus}} and the next combatant from the queue steps up {both players would start fresh}
  • Waiting combatants would be able to spectate in the King or Challenger POV
  • All VOIP chat would be public amongst queue exclusively
  • VOIP between King and Challenger would be exclusive {we all need some trash talk}
  • Matches between King and Challenger would be limited to 2 min {to force engagement}
  • Draw does not count as a win {would count as a round survived (like an assist)} and the challenger would be put in the queue and next challenger get's in the ring.
Think you got what it takes to be the King_ B)

Suggestions or comments would be greatly appreciated...

So what do you guys think_

ADDITION:
  • Maybe a RANKED system could also be added for bragging rights.
  • Tournements_
This would be a perfect step for tournements.

I know some people like to solo and this would be a great way for them to participate.

{Remember: If you support this idea provide your votes and likes and let the Dev's know it}

Sounds to me like king of the hill in MK9, hmmm, it woul be also an option for CQC Sharshooters, some SS's likes to attack in close with Slug + Sabot.

It would be a true testing ground.

Test your mettle... Your skills... How many rounds can you hold out_

One on one combat with all the spoils of war.

Issues I may see into all this: What if one or more spectators unfairly provide sensitive info to one of the pilots playing the match in real time_

That could definitely be considered as cheating, isn't it_

Just my 2 cents for now.

P.S.
Probably this other related thread I made may be of your interest as well.

I actually really like this idea. It would be great for everyone too because you could very easily use this as training to get to learn your mechs better and also use it as a teaching implement for new players too. I think it would be great.

He states that the queue will have one voice channel while those playing will have a seperate and exclusive voice channel.

I also want a KOTH type gamemode.
Full 6 man fights for AA all the time... Ohhhh the bloodshed.

Want. Quite badly.

I could see this being popular with a certain crowd.

I think it would be a pretty fun mode. Certain classes/mechs would most likely dominate others, but I believe that is fair. If you choose to go in as an underpowered mech, I am guessing you are up for the challenge. Nothing is impossible!

Ranking this would be interesting... You don't want a pool of people who almost solely play this gamemode because it could detract players from MA or Siege servers. You also don't want it to be obsolete. A careful balance would have to be achieved concerning rank and gamemode. Maybe require X amount of games each week in every mode_ The problem I see with that though is some people just HATE some gamemodes. They shouldn't be "forced" to play them, but maybe that is what is required if you want to play for rank.

Work with me on this one!

My current preference is in this order:
  • Siege
  • Missile
  • Team Deathmatch
  • Deathmatch
If they would ass the GLADIATOR mode then it would be taking my 3rd spot as I prefer team based objective play over all. But GLADIATOR would be a "hiatus" from my usual play. Sometimes you need a break from your usual play.

I'm sure others would feel the same way. But yes there are people who would glory hog and specialize in the GLADIATOR mode and that's just the way game play goes. People play what they like.

Regardless, I say bring it on. I want to see this mode made! :wub:

It's a gladiator mode would be implemented, it would be like a mode like tournament mode 1vs1 from Q3A, when more members join there will have a turn and have to wait until the challenger is defeated by the gladiator, when the challenger defeat the gladiator he or she becomes the new gladiator, and a new challenger from the queue will try to defeat him or her.

Sounds me more logical a mode like this, i'll read somewhere than a horde mode will be coming from the game, if is something likes horde mode from gow would be fine, but what i'll dislike is the idea of robot zombies, i'll have enough with the zombies in others games, dummy zombies from l4d, supposed intelligent zombies carrying weapons from resident evil 6 and now something like mech zombies, nahhh, please dont developers, thanks

Would be likely than having the mode on, only the participants of the duel can have only voip comm enabled, the spectators only can watch or talk between themselves but not with the participants than are engaged in the duel.

Love this idea, it's like King Of The Hill in HALO.  Would also like to see a Hawken version of HALO's "Oddball", which is like KotH, but instead of occupying an area you hold a device longer than the other team (can run around with the device, possessor cannot fire his weapons while carrying device so team has to defend him, computer keeps track of team that held it the longest and player that kept it in possession the longest)...

I totally approve of this. However AA is still the spawn point, And if left dropped to long, will respawn at AA.

And for the love of all that is holy, DO NOT USE SAHARAH. Or whatever the desert map is called. With the uneven terrain(By that i mean Prosk starts on lower ground then Sentium, Something i consider a massive issue.) The center of the map is unfair to Prosk.

I like the idea, for ranking I could care less, and I put other for the 3rd choice mostly because I think it should be a server browser option where you can put it whatever settings you like, INCLUDING restrictions.

This concept sounds good to me too. Although no Class nor level restrictions for this potential game mode might end up having undesired results.. Not very sure on that...
