I'm sure this mode will have definite followers as do the other modes. I think it will be a excellent repreive from the deathmatch too.

It would also be a great tool for training clans and teammates.

There certainly seems to be a strong number of votes for this new mode.

A lot of people in VOIP matches agree this would be a great addition to Hawken.... Now, how to get them to comment or vote_

On the topic of "cheating" issues, would separating voice chat really matter_ People are going to have things like ventrilo or teamspeak. I think a more effective way to stop this, would be a delay or something for the spectators. Maybe 30 seconds or so. Thoughts_

Maybe there could be a gambling element too, for those who are into that. People could bet Hawken Points on the player they think will win.

I don't think the Dev's would go for that. I would though ;)

I like the idea very much, 1v1 duelling is just awesome. But i think besides killing the other there should also be a second way to win the round, to prevent "camping" or to counter excessive peek-a-boo behavior, and repetitive self healing. A central objective in the middle of the ring, for example "securing" a missile launcher (by being in this central zone for x ammount of time, without the other being in that zone as well). This objective provides an alternative way to win and thus to put pressure on the other forcing him to get out of cover and do something about it.

Supported,

i'm better into team-based game-modes, so i won't play it that much, but it can be a nice alternative to DM, and cool for training with friends.

so for me it's yes, but with 2 variant :

Competitive : Ranked battles with an initial random or win/loose ratio players selection

Sandbox  : With friend and no effect on xp/HC gain

Gladiator Mode should be released with it's own map {colloseum style map maybe_} at the same time as a new map {for the other modes} is introduced.

It does seem the community likes the concept. I wonder if it will be a map/mode in the making_

How about an open pit style_
Where players waiting are watching from the rim of the arena.
Spectaing participants can walk around on the upper rim or outer ring to watch but the spectator weapons would be disabled as to prevent distracting shots at the duellers from the "grandstand"_

Currently, the new map feels similar to a gladiator arena map...

Some buddies and I have tried "duelling" 1v1 in facility the other night.
We had a blast taking turns; trying to be KING OF THE RING.
We'd really like to see a gladiator arena.

Anyone got an opinion_
Has any group of you even tried this_

I think restrictions can be implemented to the current modes. it's a great idea.

but you can bypass level restriction if you keep buying a new mechs :o

sounds like a lot of fun. what if there is an arena map with two doors and the other players can watch the match from high ground around the battle area.

how about 1 to 3 camera men. with flaying drones. and all the players in the game can watch live replay from this cameras (with the game engine not a video stream).

arranged battles at scheduled times.

you can destroy the camera man for fun :D

Me and some buddies recently tried this concept on an unpopulated deathmatch server. It worked well.

We used different silos and the AA and the areas infront of the bases as makeshift "arenas" with spectators on the high ground "out of play".
It was a blast!

We really need a gladiator server!

Maybe the "training area" could allow for you to bring in a buddy for sparring purposes_

I'd be down if I didn't have to watch a C-class healing battle, or hide-and-seek match between scouts for 10 minutes. To avoid long waits I would prefer everyone fighting 1 on 1 in their own map at the same time. Then cycling victors versus each other while the defeated can face each other and eventually leading to a Champion at the top. As far as watching it coliseum style from the seats, I'd leave that to a spectator mode or video recording.

I'd give a 1 minute timer to the map. Give it more than a flat open design but rather an actual 3 level architecture to fight on but still small enough to avoid easy repair-hiding.

Problem is the simultaneous death scenario.
