Very nice. And welcome to Hawken! 
The previews for the Hawken graphic novel actually make it pretty clear in the canonical lore that the inhabitants of Illal are human... but if we ignore that, I could definitely see this scarred mercenary-like guy out there, chasing me down.
There's an icon space on your profile in-game that's currently just a generic avatar, so custom avatars are possibly planned.
