This saves your dodge cool down for when you need a steady aim to shoot. Using this tactic, all my defensive maneuvers are tweaked forward boosts and all my offensive maneuvers are side dodges.

I super charge this with basic fuel converter which collects splash damage for the larger slower mechs. These tactics really make Freddy shake it.

Tried it. Doesn't work that well with C class.

yes it's an advanced maneuver that most decent pilots do ! but works only with a classes. You can combine it with a dodge for multiple different maneuvers that will make your enemy waste his secondary weapon shot and give you a chance to hit him in the face if you chose good angles for your "side-boost & dodge"

This strategy does work on some B classes

It doesn't work in C-Class, but the 180 boost turn works in all classes.

This strategy will work well with all A-Classes, and Raider. I've also had some success doing it with sharpshooter and assault when I am caught in CQC. Other than that stick to cover and other advanced dodging maneuvers like L and r dodges, reverse direction dodging while moving around your opponent, etc.

Good tip for budding a-class pilots OP. Maybe someone should do an updated movements guide video_ The one everyone directs people to now is good but a little outdated.

How does the speed of a side dash compare to a forward boost_ Perhaps the opposite move (turning sideways to dash towards or away) could be situationaly useful.
On second thought let's not go to #hawkenscrim. Tis a silly place.

Never try it yet. I will try it with my Scout and Zerker. Thx for the tip. :)

Little bit more than situationally useful, especially in a C-class. When I'm being aggressive I turn sideways and dodge towards my target to cover a lot of ground quickly. Usually surprises people when a fatty with a flak or vulcan is in their face a lot sooner than expected.

Or just turn mouse a bit and side dodge which turns into a diagonal dodge... even takes less fuel if you are spec'd into the right stuff.

yup advanced movement 101. This is a great way to preserve fuel and trick your opponents. I hope more people start doing this.

I use both moves regularly. I generally take shields by dodging into them from cover/my shield--this gives me the twofold advantage of minimizing my time in the open and being able to orientate myself in a way that will let me instantly start shooting at the enemy as soon as I get in. With burst mechs, especially ones that are effective at a distance, I'll often fire both of my weapons, turn to my right, immediately dodge to the right, and, while dodging, straighten myself out and fire both weapons at my target again. If you get decent at doing that it functions almost exactly like boosting backwards.

From a different thread, first link to the video that I found.  This video learnt me some nice moves and IIRC shows what we're talking about here.

edit: Just watched it again, this video will never get old.

That is because the brawler is a mountain with legs..not an actual mech.  If it was a mech it would have mobility

It depends on how much you tuning points you added to boost thrusters. My B-Classese with high boost thrusters boost forward at the same speed if not faster than the side dodge.

And sorry Paschar, the video you posted doesn't depict what I'm talking about, however, it does have a lot of good tactics I use already.
