Sup peepl!

So, I wonder what is better for you_ Playing with the room lights on or off_ Both for your eyes and for the feel of being in a mech.

Myself, I think with the lights off, the total focus is on the screen, which makes me feel like I'm in the mech a lot more. Though we can't deny that it could be pretty bad for one's eye :P

What about you_

depends, if the sunlight is burning my eyes, I close the covers and play in the dark. But if my screen is too birght, I turn on the lights. However, usually I paly in the dark.

I am under the impression that the less the screen brightness varies from the surrounding environment the easier it will be on the eyes, and my experience is consistent with this. Lights on.
On second thought let's not go to #hawkenscrim. Tis a silly place.

I can't remember where I got it, but I've got a small strip of LED lights that's attached to the back of my monitor. I play with the room lights off, but that small strip of lights on. Seems to be a little easier on my eyes than total darkness, and the reflected glow sort of makes you feel like you're really in a cockpit!

I keep my lights off when I play, though my desktop (which is right beside my main monitor) has a bright LED strip in it that sort of spills over onto my desk a little bit.

Yeah, but dude, we are at 1750. As much as we would like to be Professional Yolodrivers like you [Meraple] and Lightangel112, we're not there yet. It's something to aspire to, sure, but there's a lot of ground to cover.

If you want to keep playing in your OLD AGE.  Save your eyes and keep the lights on.

Lights on is necessary for me because without it, when I call people noobs and insult their mothers, it's full of typos.
Typos ruin my feeling of immersion.

Playing without lights off will f*ck your eyes up eventually, so i always have at least a small light source on my desk when i'm playing.

Most high-end hdtv/monitors have ambient light level sensing, and adjust the output Brightness relative to it.
So, it may cause headaches, eyestrain, etc, but likely nothing permanent, however you'll feel better even if it's a low-output colored light.
The USNavy shipboard CIC scope-dopes work in the near-dark, but do have low-wattage red lights (or they used to. it's been decades since).
YMMV
