I was thinking about how discouraging it is to sit in an empty server and try to fill it all by yourself. Non-deathmatch games require a minimum number of players before they start, so joining a server with 1 or 2 people in it is also not very enticing.

SO, I think it'd be great if players that "ready up" are allowed to spawn into the map to explore it and play unranked deathmatch. During this pre-match, stats aren't recorded and you don't earn XP or HC. When the minimum number of necessary players are ready and the initial "ready up" countdown ends, those who are in-game despawn, the map is reset, and then the game proceeds as normal: people spawn in the starting areas while waiting for the "go" timer to count down.

Here's an alternative that you'll most likely won't like:

If you have a capable computer, you can launch HAWKEN twice. Log in in both clients, and in one, join whatever server you like, and with the second, go to explore mode.

HAWKEN parkour is fun.

I like this idea.
Maybe just DM though, since team sorting could change at any time.

I don't think steam allows a user to launch a game while another game is already running.

You don't need to start steam to launch the game.
However you cannot login two times with the same username in the Hawken login menu.

I do like the idea of a pre-match sandbox.

I think you missed the point. I want unranked DM while waiting in all game modes. When the real game starts, people are put into teams.

Personally, I like DM the least among all game modes, but any other mode than DM for the unranked pre-match doesn't make sense, as it'll only be for 2-5 total players. Honestly, I dislike DM, but even DM is better than sitting in the lobby.

Heh, My bad, I misunderstood the idea to be "TDM" instead of "DM" for the warm-up/Pre-game session. I also support the pre-game session on all modes, not just DM, What I meant "Maybe just DM though" was my suggesting that it be a game of DM instead of TDM.

It would be a very nice addition now that the server count has decreased so much.
