I am having this same issue, I think its to do with your .Net Framework / your DirectX version, I have DirectX11 and it still doesnt work, the rest of the message will say about a missing D3DCOMPILER_43.dll this is DirectX Related but I have a fully upto date version. So I suspect its due to my OS as I have Vista Business and this doesnt support .Net 4 Framework

Well the OP's issue could be anything since he didn't post specifics besides the above error, like his system specs and video driver version.

As for you, Lt_JNaut, download this file http://files.ngohq.c....0-KB971512.zip

It is DirectX 11 for Vista, but I'm assuming you did a Windows Update or did a web install.  This, I hope, is a complete package that doesn't require downloading from the internet.  If it's not, get back to me and I'll try to find the complete downloadable package.  That should fix your missing compiler issue because the web update could've missed something.

I took the Diretx2010 as i have SP2 already, Sadly despite going through the available compressed files, I am still suffering the same issue...

[HawkenGame-Win32-Shipping.exe - Unable to locate component]
"This application has failed to start because D3DCOMPILER_43.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem"

And just because I want to play this game with friends so badly heres the relevant system specs straight from the DXDiag

Wow, this sucks.  It could be an issue where the Hawken program is not seeing the compiler at all, which would require a reinstall of the Hawken game, or the file is simply not getting installed.  So start by searching your C:/windows folder for "D3Dcompiler_43.dll" .  It should find it in the system32 folder (and sysWOW64 folder if you got a 64-bit OS).  If it's missing, then you could extract it from the Directx download you have and just copy and paste into the folder(s).

If that doesn't work, then try to reinstall Hawken because a lot of ppl complained that the installer itself fails to install the game properly.  Finally there are new Nvidia drivers available, newer than what you have. But follow the following method:-

You can get the 310.70 drivers at Geforce.com . Download a program called driver sweeper (not Driver fusion) and install.  Then uninstall Physx and Nvidia drivers through the control panel.  Then run Driver sweeper and check the Nvidia "Display" and "Physx" options and run it.  Then clean out the remaining stuff.  Now you can install the new drivers and choose custom installation.  Uncheck 3D options if you don't use them, and uncheck Nvidia update cause manual install is cleaner.

Why not simply check "clean install" on the Nvidia installation_  Because it doesn't do a clean install; it only deletes profiles.  So old system files remain behind.  That's why you do it with the above method.

After a few failed login attempts my HawkenGame-Win32-Shipping.exe crashes and the program to report the crash to the Devs appears.  I chalk it up to the new patch.  The game was working fine pre-patch so just be patient I wouldn't blame it on anything that you did or your hardware..........  They are working on it.

Yeah I already put a support ticket in; I've completely uninstalled the game, deleted the directory and reinstalled; same error.

I've completely uninstalled my graphics drivers (yes, in safe mode) and reinstalled, same error - I've done both in conjunction, same error - game won't load, so I'm completely unable to play. I'm using 310.70, but perhaps I should try a different driver.

The suggestion support gave me was check dxdiag; no errors. Also to use the U3Redist.exe to reinstall some Unreal 3 engine required files, no help. All other games work just fine. Going on week two of not being able to play.

I tried to create a "HawkenBackup" folder, but it still has the same annoying message AND I tried to run UE3Redist, but I still get the same STUPID error!

BUT, if I take the PROBLEM SIGNATURE and SELECT ALL, then PASTE it on NOTEPAD or any other text program, I get this:

Couldn't locate '..\..\Engine\Config\BaseCompat.ini' which is required to run 'Hawken'

How do I fix this_

This is a necro bump, not sure how much of this even pertains to the new release on steam.

Did you successfully run the UE3Redist.exe program_  From the sounds of it, you make it seem like when you try to run it, it throws an error.  If it does throw an error what is the error_

Looking at that message, you might of deleted the wrong files maybe_  The Hawkenbackup folder should of been in the "my documents/my games" folder, not in your steam apps folder path.

I'd repair / reinstall  Hawken, and contact tech support @ https://playhawken.zendesk.com/
