it would cool to have spent coolant vat/bay/cell or interior part of the weapon eject immediately as 100% overheating is reached before the guns are lowered, this could also be used as a visual sign for the enemy, when the weapons raised back up the cell or part could be replaced by a new one or missing entirely, even providing diminishing returns maybe_ this would be a great aesthetic but not applicable to every weapon

i believe it would be fun to explore this idea

You could probably do that a lot easier just by having the guns raising obvious smoke. They ARE, after all, overheated.

If your settings are high, you can see enemies' weapons glowing red from overheating, too, and even lowering.

i like the idea, but very can be very hard to see those kinds of details amongst the action. Usually, a mech's body language will tell you a lot more about whats goin on with him than i think a weapon-overheating confirmation animation would.

I don't know what options this is but I would love for that to be a separate option that, even if i'm playing on low so I can max my fps, this one particular option is turned on.  I don't care about 16x anti-aliasing vs +10% more fps but knowing if the enemy is overheated is a gameplay advantage that I would want to turn on.

I think that a sort of coolant based visual effect would be pretty cool.
Perhaps plumes of steam shoot out of the engine block or arms upon overheating. Rather simple to implement in comparison to coming up with a new animation for ejecting heat sinks or something.

I would keep this purely cosmetic though.

Visual cues to the status of other mechs would be both handy to have, and very cool to look at.

Better visual cues than just the heated red weapons would be awesome. I play everything on max, but with all the smoke, guns, and grit going off I can't really make out if their guns are overheating or not.
