In game when people would MIC up I couldn't see who was talking.

This is really annoying. If someone is a cussing jerk you can't report, kick, or ban them 'cause you can't identify them.

The Staging area should also allow chatting and typing.

Something I found useful in other games:

Public Chat: Great for cross banter call outs for "duels"
Team Chat: Great for co-ordinating an attack
Local Chat: Excellent for a 3 man unit under special ops.
Unit Chat: As Team Chat but as a formed unit

Team matches do apparently have this partially implemented.  When the match starts, the voice comms is team-only, and goes to a group chat when the match is over and the leader-board is showing.

However, yes to the identifier of who is talking (I'd love to see something show up on the minimap as well).  This is a somewhat often mentioned thing in the forums that people want added. :)

(I don't mean to necro threads, I'm just almost always running behind.  My apologies)

yep, icons to identify who is chatting, as well as icons to mute someone's voicechat or to ignore some user's annoying text chat would be very good idea, IMO. A chat window is a must too. Other than that, what the OP well says above.

Definately need to see who is chatting away, or left comms open while eating crisps. Icon is a neat idea, don't think I've seen many people doing that.

My only problem with voice chat is you can't go back and check who said what   :P

I found the last 4 items above for very useful in games like Killing floor and Red Orchestra Ostfront 41-45.

Integration of this/these feature(s) should also be smoother between windows as well.
You die and go to the Staging screen. No ID's or ability to type chat to players. No blocking annoying VOIP players {CSGO does this well}
It does get really annoying.

I would like to see a player mic indicator as well. Could implement a speaker/mic icon next to the players gamertag, or have some kind of sound indicator coming off the player's tracker on the radar.

In this last phase I had a guy key up and he dominated the channel. No one could communicate for over 5 min till he dropped from the game. There was no way to block him or mute him and we couldn't identify anyone else talking either.
Not to mention that nobody paid any attention to the typed messages in gameplay.

I noticed in CSGO you can block irritating players and in Red Orchestra Ostfront 41-45 you can VOIP chat on "Local", "Team", and "Public" chat. This would be way better than the current system.

My mic hasn't worked in Hawken yet either {I have a support ticket with Meteor about this}. This has made my game play autonomous of the other players. I'm good at it though but I'm even better when the whole team communicates {Thank you Rokth for being a truly awesome player and co-ordinater even though we were playing with idiots}.

A visual indicator in game as well as in the MIC test would be great. so you know if Hawken recognizes your MIC and that you and other players can be identified.

I did talk to a lot of players in game since i got my mic working and we are still frusterated that this feature hasn't been added yet.
The official launch 12/12/12 is 2 weeks away and we have nothing to show for it.

I suggested something similar for those who go on text based chat.  -> By assigning an ID ( number ) per player. And adressing the message to him by, for example, typing something as follows:  3: Howdy_  -> so adressing the message "howdy_" to player 3 as personal message and displaying in his chat window or wherever that this message comes from you.

You like the idea_
