Surely if the Solid State Launcher read: Server Status: Down, we'd get a whole let less confused "Unable to download manifest" threads, eh_

I'm sure this'll get done in time, I mean this is just Beta, so perhaps the devs intend to include some form of official statement describing the nature of the servers at a given time later on during the game's development.
Do I look like a reasonable man, or a peppermint nightmare_

Well, the launcher is a pretty horrid mess anyways, so I'm sure this isn't even close to the final design. Can't login by pressing enter, can't resize the launcher to hide the scroll bars, etc. Hell, it's impossible to retry logging in if the servers are down without restarting the launcher.
So yeah, I agree with the OP, but there's a lot more wrong with the launcher than just the server status missing.
