I have a feeling it's due to the fact that Hawken may not officially support Win8 yet.

Either that, or your monitor (TV_) is doing some very weird things. Why do you have such huge amounts of letterboxing..._

it's an actual monitor. an ANCIENT monitor... but a monitor it is. i tried both 4:3 and 16:9, both failed. and i dont think i follow on the letterboxing...

I confirm I have this issue too, where only the left half of the game appears initially. Workaround is to use ALT+Enter to force the game into a window, which you can then set the resolution in the options menu normally. once set to a preferred resolution by your monitor, works fine.

My theory is: The default install resolution is is unsupported. While my computer is new, I'm actually using a fairly old monitor myself. while not super old, it doesn't support "dem crazy widescreen". It's highest supported resolution is 1680x1050. While the default install resolution is smaller, it's a 1280x720, it's an aspect ratio that the thing just can't understand

Suggested solution: Default resolution of the game should probably be set to a more "standard" ratio, or an out of game options client to set initial graphics settings, such as "Start full screen"/"Start windowed"

I'm running windows 7, AMD Radeon HD 7800.
No problem with these, just the aspect ratio isn't translatable by older monitors

At the moment, a rather inelegant solution is to edit the INI file to set your chosen resolution.

(My) DocumentsMy GamesHawkenHawkenGameConfigHawkenSystemSettings.ini

ResX and ResY are your X/Y resolution values.

Yeah, that would be how to do it. Your monitor must run at some odd resolution the game can't think about (which is why you got the letterboxing).

Either way, glad you got it fixed.
