Also, I like mechs not having icons.
It means you have to have situation awareness to figure out what you're engaging.
Is that C-Class charging in_ Must be a Brawler.
Why is that B-class hanging back_ Oh, it's a Sharpshooter.
Did that A-class just fire a TOW_ Must be a Berserker.
If you observe properly, you can figure out what your fighting, by watching how they engage, how they move and what they look like.
There's also the fact the scoreboard shows the class a person is playing.
Just sneak a peek at that, and when you see a certain name, you'll know what your fighting.

As for the icons meant by the OP I'd like to see the icons they have now change depending on the paints used on the mech. Personal rep of your mech > the default picture which if you bought chassis looks nothing like your mech.

It wouldn't need to be moderated since only you see it. You could design your own awesome icon for each loadout even on similar mech chassis.

Yeah, I like the idea but not for flooding the radar with tiny icons you can't read. Icons ala Supreme Commander, ie proper military designation type ones would be clear but I totally 100% agree with Asian that it isn't necessary or warranted. Good situational and map awareness should be rewarded and not given out like candy on Halloween.
Back to the mech shop icons, I like the idea as I said but I guess the current ones while mostly on the bland part, do exactly what they need to do and are exactly what it says on the tin. Such that its instantly recognisable. Any replacing graphical icon would have to be just as recognisable and the graphical style would need to fit in with the games aesthetic and be capable of representing all classes. Plus if they add more mechs (alpha player talking here), then there might be issues further down the line. Just speculating mind. Out of curiosity, if you swap chassis, etc on mech, do the icons change_ Cos that would be super neat. If we could get really clean icons that updated with mechs in a suitable graphical style that would be such a nice detail to the game.
