There are already several actions in the game that increase your radar signature but I think there's one missing that would add some depth to the mechanic. Object collision such as brushing up against walls, kicking around trucks and lightpoles and what-not should also increase your radar signature. Currently, all these destructible objects server no purpose other than to remind you that you are in a 10-ton death machine. Making them an actual gameplay element would increase map awareness and force players to actually be careful where they walk. A cloaked infiltrator would actually have to think stealthily rather than be comfortably undetectable for a few seconds.

One thing I'll add to this for thought is you can hear the mech slamming trucks, walking into light poles etc. To me that lights you up just as hot as radar. I laugh when I think of all those times where I've sat cowering under something waiting to heal while a big fatty stomps overhead.

Considering that they block line of fire, I'd say they're already a game element.

Radar != sonar.  Why would rubbing things affect the way radio waves bounce off your hull_

Might as well have the radar show everyone all the time. There are too many things to get stuck on and I really rather not to need to tip toe around the map without lighting up like a christmas tree.

Perhaps initially, but as the game progresses the objects will be destroyed and the enemies will be harder to detect. This will make a match change over the course of the battle. Besides, the radar signature doesn't need to be huge. It's not like you're firing or boosting. But it should still be make you seen further than walking or jumping.

I don't like this.
It seems like a replacement for ears and thinking.

This, in addition to using your ears you can also watch for shadows, the number of times I have juked people by watching their shadows when I don't have a line of sight is ridiculous.

I've turned shadows off.
It helps Titan/Origin play like it's not an interactive slideshow.

Benefits of newer custom rigs, RUN WITH ALL THE SETTINGS!!! (On that note I guess we found one benefit of running at max settings instead of a stripped .ini, woot)

Yeah, I built myself a beast of a gaming rig last year, and I love being able to play this on full settings.  It's exceptionally pretty, and watching the BS shadow cruise overhead in Baazar while fighting lends a lot of atmosphere to the level.
