Please remove UGLY graphics bells and whistles.  Or at least set them to off by default.  Adding graphics effects should improve the look of the game, not splatter it with nonsense that make it look worse.  Here's a list of offenders that should be removed...

- depth of field [can only be practical as artistic focus for story telling, not gameplay]
- image grain [used to simulate bad image quality]
- motion blur [used to simulate low FPS like in film]

grain can be toggled in options. some things you can change in the .ini files, but that maybe against T&Cs ...(or something, don't take me to word for that). And finally, forum search function

The better option would be to allow the user to decide if it's on or not. Don't just remove it. It's there because it has a purpose that you might not know of or doesn't affect you personally.

I think it is a good idea to set the highest graphics quality and every effect on by default depending on the performance your computer. If you do not want to use it, just turn it off or modify the .ini files. And motion blur is not for simulating low FPS but the human eyes.

lol "simulating human eyes".  why do we need to simulate something we already have_  motion blur is for simulating the low FPS in film/video.

I get the argument of having them off by default. Have any of you played Sahara/Bazaar with them all on_ God, I almost vomited.

Off by default, good.

These ugly bells and whistles help to create the games atmosphere and immersion. They don't bother me at all. I'm tempted to tell you to go play another game.

Yes and no.  As far as "low FPS films" go more along the lines of exposure time back when actual film was more prevalent which was what.. 30 fps or less for a movie(and also using a completely different method of displaying said images than what you get with a computer monitor).  But since we see in analog and not in digital or FPS, kinda, yes.  As we see fast moving objects as a blur if we aren't tracking them, and since there isn't a shutter speed for your eyes.

But, in any case, like most eye-candy that's added to games, it's great for cinematic scenes, and for single player games, but once you go online, it generally puts you at a disadvantage.

Because computers do not simulate motion blur normally - it delivers perfectly crisp frames every time, which is imperfect compared to replicating human vision.

Ergo, Motion Blur is an attempt to simulate that anomaly of the human visual system.

All the time. Only thing I don't have on is PhysX and that's because PhysX is unoptimized right now.

I actually rather like motion blur as it helps me detect things peripherally.

I like turning on bloom and image grain (someone tell me if there's a way to just have motion blur without bloom) because it feels more "authentic". Like I'm actually piloting a low-tech mech on a chaotic battlefield.

You can disable bloom in the INI files, but be warned that INI tweaking isn't supported by the devs. (In other words, if it breaks, your problem. Delete your INI and re-launch Hawken to get the default back, or just keep a backup.)

This is patently incorrect.

Motion blur is a phenomena that happens IRL with human eyes. Just wave your hand in front of your face really fast and you'll see it.

Only gamers think of motion blur as something 'tacked on' or 'unnecessary'...
