That sounds annoying as hell. Different voices for the few things they have would be neat but having an On-star that never shuts up would just be too much. Computers that talk to you, that was futuristic maybe back in the 70s and 80s.

perhaps have a checkbox for each voice alert in the options.  so users can fully customize which alerts they prefer.

I think there is no need for a pleasing female voice for status updates (like EVA in the C&C series). And actually the most of the listed requests have already been implemented.

Try Siege, there is a boot sequence with all sorts of beeps.

I think there is no need for this. The repair process automatically stops when you are at 100% and you can hear the sound of this.

There is a sound warning for this.

View PostghostXzero, on December 01 2012 - 05:53 AM, said:

This is also implemented.

This reminds me of BattleZone.
You can hear a looping beep proportional to your damages

- fuel depleted
It would be really annoying. Also you can hear when the afterburners stop.

View PostghostXzero, on December 01 2012 - 05:53 AM, said:

- enemy destroyed
A high ping indicates this.

the point is to have a voice say it instead of sound effects

All of the notifications you want are all unnecessary for any player with good awareness. Good game awareness should be rewarded and not given out for free. Noticing subtleties in the game is what distinguishes the better players and allows them to gain edges over others. Persistent bleeping and vocal announcements will also irritate certain players. I wont say most players as I don't know what the majority consensus is yet but I would definitely not enjoy it. In the interest of having a good learning curve, keeping the smaller things harder to see is much preferable so you can always be improving and bettering yourself as a player. At least that's what I enjoy most about games, improving myself and pushing what I am capable of.

Most of these things have audio cues. Words take longer to understand than a sound. Stupid topic.

There's also the fact that such voice messages have to be localized for different versions of Hawken. It's actually in the devs' interest, from a monetary POV, to have as little audible human speech as possible.

Or simply put.. sounds that are not based on language can have a wider meaningful communication to more people. They are over all easier to understand on a whole than for a few specialized locals.

Also if you do NOT understand the language it is still just a various sound. Not trying to be a prick.. but sounds only have meanings because we make them do. The same can be applied to words. Their meanings are based on current local social ideas.

The current sounds simplify the whole thing. Why fix something that isn't broken_

I have to say that the existing in-game sounds are perfectly sufficent for me and my playing purposes. And folks have made a good point about localization.

Perhaps a checkbox if you want a SFX or a Voice to announce things... But I think it's not necessary, but will really increase the immersion of the game.

Yeah, at first I thought that was cool but now it's annoying as feck.  If you join a game in progress you can get all the way to the first EU tree and your HUD still isn't functioning.  Standing around and waiting for 15 seconds (or however long it takes) for it to pass is of course an option but standing still at the base when piloting an A-class that's chomping at the bit just feels so vewy, vewy wong.

At least, playing a new wave-sound to report you when you're sustaining damage in the 300/250 (depending on your mech class..) HPs range would ne good idea.

A nice klaxon-y sound, of course.

Ok. Back to the future then_.. :P

Another idea would be allowing the player to pick up more sophistied and rich sets of voice messages in the cockpit. By a drop down list in the game settings with 3 options: Extended, normal and minimal. That way everybody would be happy and cool on this matter.

You know what could work_ Voice packs for sale. Tribes: Ascend did it, and it's obviously worked quite well as a way to monetize customization.
