In referrence to post: http://community.pla..._hl__unplayable

I had given up... then... something in the back of my head said to me... "linux is a much better operating system than w!ndow$, why not try that before giving up on the game..."

and then.. within 1 hour, I loaded up my Fedora 16 installation running MATE desktop with compiz installed, a couple of wine tricks laters and presto!!!!

Hawken running flawlessly on Linux... in 1280x760 (or to that range cant remember exactly but definately 1280) with Medium GFX and Textures and running smooooooth as silk!!!!!

have a look at the attached image.. who would have thought that linux would run a game better than windows would... anyways... now if only i can make League of Legends work reliably I wouldnt need windows anymore!!!!!

and there is nothing wrong with my windows 7 ultimate installation, its only a few months old and there are only 3 programmes installed on it, office 2010, LoL and Hawken....

Detail your wine tricks. I'm dual booting win/ubuntu. This is very relevant to my interests.

Hey dude...

i first copied the installed game folder from my windows drive to my wine folder via nautilus.. then

follow the wineHQ list of winetricks download for hawken, i didnt do the ie6 one....

BUT .. you will have to do the following:
sh winetricks --force xact_jun2010
cabextract Jun2010_XAudio_x64.cab
then copy XAPOFX1_5.dll to your .wine/drive_c/windows/system folder
then winecfg, add XAPOFX1_5.dll to your list and make sure its native then default - save changes
wineboot
then wine HawkenLauncher.exe

Also, keep in mind that really it's just you lucking out and Wine being able to support it, due to the fact the game runs DX9 (for now) and such. Obviously there is no official dev support for Linux, and I doubt there will be probably until after consoles as those are bigger targets, assuming they go to consoles after all.

More likely that your Windows had some fuzzy bunny running in the service.
Pretty sure if you'd reinstall your Windows from scratch you'd be fine :)

Anyway glad you could make it into the game !
