All too often, I've seen players charge in needlessly to attempt to steal a kill while abandoning their position at a missle turret or even abandoning a teammate who's fending off 2 mechs.  Simply put, zooming in for kill glory is often done at the expense of the team.

I have an elegant and efficient solution to this issue that requires no input from the game's developers whatsoever.

Stop playing pubs.

No, the game should not be broken and logic defied so that you or anyone else can feel important while you willfully submit yourself to the frothing mass that is "the pubs"

Kills should be whoever gets the last shot. It's entirely possible to gain more XP than the killer even if you net an assist.

For what it's worth, XP rewarded is given as a straight-up percentile of damage taken, minus another other bonuses (like Savior or Avenger, and it will tell you those tallies seperately), and you gain 20 XP if you do the extra kill versus 10 for the assist.

So if you got 70 XP for an assist, you know you did 60% of the damage. The other guy will gain 60 XP - 40 from the damage, 20 for the kill. This alone makes the "Killsteal" really a non-issue except for those who wish to pad out their K/D Ratios.

Indeed. If nobody cared about padding their K/D ratio, we wouldn't have topics like this one!

...Oh wait.

I'm surprised you didn't say "Stop playing Deathmatch", actually.

What about the following case_:

For example on the old Titan map:
You see a mech evading the place. Let's say it's an scout. He is low on HPs. But he's smart. You pursuit him, but he evades well by using the ma's geometry and firing back. You get damaged. Damn guy.. you even got EMPed!. He repairs a little and the fight goes on... you finally got him. Arf.. that definitely was a tough guy...

Should that fairly count as a kill for ya_ You know what I mean..
