I was thinking if it would be cool if players could bet on matches.

Bets = HC, Mech (Value), Item (Value) etc.

your team wins  = players get the value added the score
your team loses = players lose bet item ie. HC, mech/item.

also maybe if yours team's bet is higher than the other teams bet and you win, they team gets a bonus XP and HC (250 each) if not no bonus.

I join a match, switch teams ... all bets are off :D

though I would add a spectator mode

If there was a spectator mode then a betting system would be a neat addition. People watching can bet on their favored team, or bet on who they think will get MVP or what have you. Good idea, should implement along side spectator mode, cause I can't in good conscience vote yes on this otherwise.

Could be interesting as a separate game mode down the line, but I don't think the game needs it right now

Would this game get banned in some countries where betting is illegal is the question. If so, I don't see this happening.

It isn't like you would be betting real currency. If you live in a country that doesn't allow you to bet something that doesn't exist or mean anything, like HC for example, then you live in the wrong country.

I don't like this idea in terms of the ability to pull it off

unlike Hawken, with the game people normally bet on, the players cannot change sides or decide to stop playing. You also know that each player wold be trying their hardest, because their career would depend on it.

no suppose I played a match in Hawken, and you bet on me (or my team)

I decide to not try as hard because I don't feel like it, I then switch teams, and half way though the match, quit (or time out) you just lost your bet.

I think it would be more negative than positive. It's a perversion of the honest play to win system and would allow players to get things prematurely based on "luck".

It's like having someone else write your paper - it might be good or bad, but either way you didn't do it.
Strive for perfection - you'll never reach it but you'll create great things along the way.

A system like this provides greater incentive for team stacking. I say no.

parties would dominate games. placing a bet if youre not in a party would be stupid. and if the non partied team doesnt bet, why would the partied team throw in a bet if they have nothing to win_

If it happened in fight club, it could be like "Pink Slip" races; Winner gets the loser's mech. That would be pretty rad, if you asked me.

thats right team stacking thrown rounds racketeering general habidashery will come or mabey we're paranoid and it wouldnt hurt at all to add another dimension to the game

the system itself wouldn't be too difficult to put together im sure the devs could if they felt like it. perhaps an api/mod capability will release in the future and we can create our own system linked into the game

Suspicions of rampant cheating abound in the game now. Imagine the lengths some players would go to in order to win if betting was introduced into the game.

This could be a neat idea. However, I believe it would cause drama. As well, it may make Hawken look tacky to outsiders.
