Caterpillars, moths, and butterflies are all insects. Caterpillars are simply the larval stage of the latter's metamorphic life cycle.

And bug is a slang term, not an official scientific classification.

actually there are arthropods called "true bugs"

insects mostly have chewing mouthparts
while bugs have a proboscis or "straw" and most have a diamond body shape

i have had one as a pet and they are very friendly towards humans

there are also water "beetles" they are bugs
this is the giant water bug it is one of the largest arthropods on earth

Those are still insects, though. They are just a sub group within the insect family. Calling them "true bugs" is once again the slang term for them, not the official scientific term.

Also, Metal Slug has awesome sprites.
