I'm pretty sure at this point, we're all familiar with the spam bots. I can imagine that we're all sick of them.

As such, there have been a few solutions proposed. This has been one of them.

Plain and simple: to help reduce the amount of spam on the forums, should a player be required to reach a certain pilot level before being able to post on the forums_

Not only would this help reduce the spam, but this would also help in having players having a little more of an educated viewpoint before posting.

Good venture, but some new pilots may post here for questions and they might not be that certain pilot level yet.  I think an amenable solution would to only allow a forum user to post a new topic once every couple minutes or so, maybe 5 minutes per new topic.  Might stem a major influx of spam topics, limit the amount, reduce the topics to ease up on the mods and to slow the spam.

I admit, I did think about the players who haven't played and are downloading or the players who haven't reached that pilot level yet.

I do also agree that limiting the amount of posts per period would definitely help with the spam.

No solution is perfect, unfortunately. :c

Shiet, how do i change my vote_

Either way, i think in order to make this work, Players can reply to topics but can't make topics before reaching the requried rank, and maybe some of us veteran users can set up some topics for them to ask questions in

Not a good idea at all. There may be people who need to ask questions when they can't even log in to the game or are frequently DC'd/crashed. And honestly I don't even know how they would cross-reference the game server info with this forum to restrict access based on player level.

There are other ways to deal with spammers without limiting players.

This wouldn't stop spammers from just posting the same stuff as replies to every single topic.

A complete restriction to any access to the forums would be wrong. However, I would not be adverse to the idea of some area's being restricted until a certain criteria was met. For example, logged into the game client and played a match.

Area's such as support and a general chat section should be open to new accounts (better verification systems are needed, though).

Captchas tend to chase bots away a majority of the time so that in itself is a good thing.

Also like some other forums, there could be requirements made to unlock certain features of posting. Such as web links, picture posting, etc. With said restrictions in place except for areas where those functions might be critical like support. Posting with anything like that would be rejected automatically, though slight scanning may need to be done to make sure the typical link bypasses are caught.

A non-level requirement solution to the problem might work better, but a quick and easy TEMPORARY solution to the problem would be to require level 2 before you can post. Really, you just have to play the game a tiny bit to hit level 2.

The issue with this is support; brand new players with issues would be unable to post to get help.  Spam is annoying, new players being unable to seek technical help is a game breaker.

Next proposal.
