Do you know what Marmoset Toolbag is_ It's realtime renderer using Unity engine. Kinda a dream come true for me personally. When you are working in 'old-school' 3D programs like 3ds Max or Maya setting up a scene takes ages but then rendering that scene takes sometimes another half of eternity.

But now the future is here. Once all is set up - just one second and it's done. Of course you won't render new Micheal Bay movie with it but for testing game assets in 3D enviroment it's a perfect tool.

Here's my last night first attempt using it with Hawken's game assets. Nothing fancy but great fun. And yeah - last one I've photoshopped it.. slightly;-)

Seems pretty interesting for game development purposes, is it/will it be utilizing Unity 5's new physically-based rendering and lighting techniques_ edit: their website wasn't loading for me, very neat indeed! I may have to check this out for myself

I don't know - haven't worked on Unity 5 but the lighting is already pretty impressive. Plus tesselation, subsurface scattering shader, etc..

Here's an official introduction video for Marmoset Toolbag 2.03:

You can try the demo here:

Looks sweet :)

Played around with Maya and Lightwave some years ago... gave up with 3DSM... just took too long to work with and to collect textures.

Now if you could make a Mech using Plasmaweapons... Ohh "drool" or a Reaper up veeery close where you look into his still smoking barrell... ... Ok... maybe i should give myself a little game from the break... i am totally Hawken with Obsessed... Can't think straight... need to keel

Oh btw... how do scenes with water look like_ with tesselation it should look pretty sleek
"And shepherds we shall be, For Thee, my Lord, for Thee.
Power hath descended forth from Thy hand, That our feet may swiftly carry out Thy command.
So we shall flow a river forth to Thee. And teeming with souls shall it ever be.
In nomine Patris et Filii et Spiritus Sancti." (The Boondock Saints)

This program is PURE AWESOMENESS!!!

Almost cooked my graphic card with this little girl but had to check how capable is this application. Tessellation to the max with smoothness on plus heavy SSS with light translucency & gloss.. phew. And it still was running realtime.. BARELY ;) But without a 'renderstation' it actually could take hours in 3ds max or Maya to render. Wow!

This time it's not even photoshopped! All was made inside of this amazing application. Except model of course - you can grab quenny for tests from tf3dm.com

Here's a super-quick mock up of ol' MOKE, only took me about 5-10 minutes to get this result where it'd take me at least that long just to pre-compose the models/lighting etc in cinema 4d or another program!

here's a little video I whipped up real quick too:

I'm not biased to Titanfall, though my greatest loyalties lie in HAWKEN. I detect no blasphemy here. Just a healthy helping of creativity. ;)

^^ funnily enough I recently whipped up my own Atlas render... mine doesn't look nearly as good as yours though :P

(fun fact: these are downsampled from 8k resolution!)

this might be awkward... can I request something_  I'm looking for new art to use and would love a render of a Bruiser in the Elite (rank 5) parts :D  would happily credit the creator in all videos that use it!

What kind of renders are you looking for_ hi-quality background/processed images like the ones pelax made, or just orthographic images on flat backgrounds that you can edit yourself later_ cause basic images like this -

are super quick and easy to render.

I actually got something from pelax this morning!  I could see a use for this one too however  I'm thinking not for thumbnail but rather to go in the video itself, possible in an intro/outro clip... yep, I'm seeing it now, mind if I use this_

Just another MT2 test.

This is a low-poly model i've ripped from Titanfall. Has textures ranging from 1024 to 2048 - ulgy compressed color/normal/specular maps. I've played with the settings sliders, didn't change a thing to original components and v'oila! It actually looks better than in original game.. why_ The multiple light sources/bounce reflections. Marmoset has amazing light system. I'm still astouned how good everything looks in MT2.

Why there wasn't such applications when i was a kid_ Now kids have so many easy-to-learn tools plus awesome ways to display their work. Not to mention so many pretty games... All i've got back then was Manic Miner on ZX Spectrum 48k+...

It almost looks real, Pelax! If it had more natural posing, I would've mistaken it for cosplay. ;)

Why all the Titanfall, though_ This is the HAWKEN Forums, and the thread topic is "Hawken realtime renders".

First post is the main post - the rest is just examples of MT2 capabilities. I can't show how tesselation fully works for example on Hawken mechs with lots of sharp edges. Or how gloss could be properly displayed when using only non-organic shapes. I just wanna to show diversity and encourage others to try it out since trial is completely free. And i'm still using trial.. at least for 10 more days! ;)

And why all the Titanfall_ Well.. I love the designs! Bought the artbook but i needed to go deeper - so i've learnt how to extract art assets from Source engine. Now i can learn some stuff. Plus make few fanarts just for fun. Till now there were only two games that I was so amazed by art direction to do the extraction: Hawken has pretty mechs, TF has pretty mechs plus 'realistic SF' infantry in which i fell in love.  It's a bit shame Hawken has no 'Support Infantry' game scenarios.. or a bit of 'arcade-simulation futuristic warfare' approach but that would be completely different game i guess.

And please don't question my loyalties - i'm still here since Closed Alpha stage in 2012 ;)

I know that very few people look here at 'ArtMedia' forum but those 'art oriented' guys who would like to start their creative adventure I strongly recomend to check this new awesome application as its open Beta has just started:

http://dev.quixel.se/

What does it do_

Fun thing is that a creator of Hawken - Ryan Hawkins - is in the actual Quixel team.. so yeah, Hawken spirit included!

The test model included is just mindblowing (rendered realtime in MT2):

I can't agree with this statement, however, and I'm here every day. ;)
