So word on the street is that the Mayhem servers are returning in a limited capacity, the 24 man servers.

I have to admit, I enjoyed them whenever I felt like derping around, because there was always someone else bound to be acting stupider than I was in that match.  Ultimate casual servers (which isn't a bad thing) that gave a lot of the community a good time.

However, when the Mayhems were last around, it left a sour taste in my mouth.  Whenever I wanted to go into a regular sized match (a normal 12 man server, 6v6), nobody was around to play in them.  The fact was that these Mayhem servers had sucked up all the players and left nobody to play on the normal servers.  My only alternative was to play in the Mayhem servers or to not play at all.  More often so than not, I ended up in these Mayhem servers, complete with utter chaos and pretty sucky ping.  Here's to hoping that they're hosted on regional servers and not strictly on USW like last time.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed Mayhems to a degree.  It was fun with all the chaos going around, but it was almost too chaotic as many of the maps felt too small for 24 players, like Uptown, Origin, Prosk.  It also sucked up many of the players and dried out normal server populations.

What I'm concerned about is that the same problems will arise, despite the population growth since Steam launch that may offset it.

Personally, I'm okay with Mayhems as long as the maps support it and are big enough.  Front Line works, and possibly Last Eco.  Maps like Bunker and Uptown will just feel too fusterclucky though, I'd imagine.

Meh. When they were around 80% of the time they were all full and I couldn't enter, and because of them almost all of the other servers were empty, so in the end I couldn't play. So its good an bad in my eyes.

I enjoyed them, despite their ridiculousness. Though I can completely understand the issues with pulling players away from the real game. Funnily enough I think this might actually be helpful in Oceana where there is usually just over the number of players to fit in a small number of servers. Everyone should have an easier time getting into a game and we can organise to move to Seige or something else from there.

I could be wrong though and I haven't had to play on US west for a while so I can't really comment on that.

Perhaps these mayhem servers will finally be able to keep players to stay for more than 1 game, so in my eyes it's definitely good!
Got few Hawken vids here on my YT.

With the current state of Hawken, I believe this would be a good thing. Even more so if they utilize the good servers.

To be honest I agree. In a game with this low player count, having places where just crazy fuzzy bunny fests happen could actually be a good thing. it'd be cool if it was sort of like a continual thing too, if someone leaves someone else takes their place, no limit on kills with a long if at all time limit. You can stay in as long as you want and just wrack up kills and get XP until you die a certain amount of times or simply hop off.

I really hope they limit the map rotation to origin, wreckage, facility and frontline. And maybe uptown.

I'm hoping for a map limit of Last Eco, Front Line, Bazaar, Facility, and Wreckage. Feel like those are big enough to have that many players and still have enough room to manuever.

Origin and Uptown felt way too cluttered last I remember. Crowded yes, but too crowded. I'd actually like to see 16 man servers if anything.

Actually i think a procedurally generated huge map would be very interesting for mayhem. Kind of like prosk but bigger and generated. Something like this:

Mayhem should be limited to DM on limited maps (so basically add a Mayhem Death Match mode...)

Or just make a few (2-3) maps specifically designed for this mode_
