I have to admit, I enjoyed them whenever I felt like derping around, because there was always someone else bound to be acting stupider than I was in that match. Ultimate casual servers (which isn't a bad thing) that gave a lot of the community a good time.
However, when the Mayhems were last around, it left a sour taste in my mouth. Whenever I wanted to go into a regular sized match (a normal 12 man server, 6v6), nobody was around to play in them. The fact was that these Mayhem servers had sucked up all the players and left nobody to play on the normal servers. My only alternative was to play in the Mayhem servers or to not play at all. More often so than not, I ended up in these Mayhem servers, complete with utter chaos and pretty sucky ping. Here's to hoping that they're hosted on regional servers and not strictly on USW like last time.
Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed Mayhems to a degree. It was fun with all the chaos going around, but it was almost too chaotic as many of the maps felt too small for 24 players, like Uptown, Origin, Prosk. It also sucked up many of the players and dried out normal server populations.
What I'm concerned about is that the same problems will arise, despite the population growth since Steam launch that may offset it.
Personally, I'm okay with Mayhems as long as the maps support it and are big enough. Front Line works, and possibly Last Eco. Maps like Bunker and Uptown will just feel too fusterclucky though, I'd imagine.
