I'll be honest:  sharpshooters were the most worthless teammates in siege mode for the most part because they thought they were helping by sitting back and sniping, while the enemy held the AA turret.  So even if a sniper is doing what a sniper does, they're pretty worthless to a team in siege and missile.  Then when they go in to try to recap, or prevent a cap, they're rushing straight into their own weakness.
You clearly haven't played with me. Even if I'm Sharpshooter, I'm often doing anything but hanging back. :P

Ask AsianJoyKiller, he can vouch for this personally, as we played a few matches on both same and opposing sides in CBE1.
Rofl. I'm still fixing those breaches in my cockpit.

The worth of a Sharpshooter is highly dependant on the skill of the pilot.
A bad pilot will be next to useless in a Sharpshooter.
A good pilot will tear apart anything when in a Sharpshooter.

While i don't believe that sharpshooters are op, I don't think that this is a good way to think about it. Whether something is balanced or not should be determined by how good they can be in the hands of skilled players, the difference between skilled and unskilled shouldn't factor in. If sharpshooters are deadly in the hands of a skilled pilot that's good, but other classes need to be at least somewhat equally deadly in high level play otherwise all top level players will just flock to sharpshooter. (For the record I believe they are balanced in this way)

The sharpshooter class was awesome in Alpha 2, but I didn't get to play it in the first closed beta. I will this time though ;)

All classes seem to be pretty deadly in the hands of the right pilots. I can't ever remember anyone complaining a class was too weak - only too strong (Assault, I'm looking at you).

My whole point is the Sharpshooter needs to aim and hit his target, basically relying on the player's accuracy. If he's got good accuracy, he'll make it damn lethal. If he doesn't have good accuracy, it's rust.
