I'd suggest to increase the height of the AA turret base's model. It's too close to the ground, IMHO. Additionally, mechs should be damaged if they get in contact with its back-flare* (or projectile/s) when the the AA turret shoots its salvo.

Would be more realistic too.

Just an idea though.

Hopefully you don't mean increasing the height of the platform as well.
It's already a pain to get on top of, even when you avoid the handrails.

Otherwise, I'm not really opposed to the idea, but it is something to consider that 1) these mechs are large, and 2) this is a highly technologically advanced planet that is, sure, dying, but at the very least the battleships suggest they are quite capable of making some advanced things.  They might not need as much space, and some of the AA's back-flare may be dampened enough that it doesn't bother the mech armor.

Agreed, seems like a waste of time.

Getting on top gives no advantage and actually increases your chance of death. Damage from the launch would just be annoying and not fun and, like Trent said, a large mech isn't really going to be affected that much. The thrust is more likely to push the mech over more than it is to cause damage.
