This is like the thrird thread since alpha, I still can't run the game.
It says "Failed to initialize downloader" every time I run it.

I'm having the same problem. Was able to get into Closed Beta event 1, but cannot get into the current one because the launcher cannot seem to update.

I've downloaded the new client, but I'm getting the same problem no matter what I do.

Make sure you have no proxy or firewall software installed and active. In some cases, having a proxy app like winpcap, even if it's not active, is enough to interfere with Hawken.

Make sure windows isn't using a proxy...
1) control panel
2) Internet options
3) connections
4) under advanced options at the bottom ensure no proxies are being used.
