Hawken is released as just a multiplayer game. If it is a success (looks as it will) the team will then have the resources and time to make a sequel building up on the original game.

The sequel would include multiplayer, singleplayer amongst other types of specialist game type (Horde/Wave mode for example).

I think it's a great way for us to get into the0 Hawken universe and for it to be built up on over time. Games like Battlefield have a similar development. For example DICE will release a battlefield game with just multiplayer, while working on another battlefield game with a campaign and multiplayer.

Seeing as this is a downloadable game, it could be seen as DLC/Expansion Pack almost. If anything they could just work on a campaign and release it as DLC than a whole new game with new multiplayer.

Just a thought that came into my head, what do you guys think_

The only thing we could do is just wait, spread the word and support development team. Lets spread the voice on other forums doing threads about the game.

I wish they bring a multi player part and a single player. But it's a hell lot of work for a team of that size. Look what happened with the improvement of Portal and Portal II. The team was doubled achieving an amazing game.

We could hope but hopes means lots of work, frustrations, days without sleep, 12 hours glued to 3d max, maya, etc...to the development team.

At least they opened up this space to let us throw our two cents on it. We must be greatful for their good intentions.

Well first off we shouldn't get ahead of ourselves... Hawken is not even out yet and we're talking about a sequel/DLC...

Anyway, to me, doing a campaign/single player mode would require a lot more work than a multiplayer mode. You have to have a good story/plot, AI, voice actors, etc etc. It would be a major addition.

Also I don't know what the feasibility of releasing it as DLC would be, since it would be such a major addition to the game. I'd imagine they would have to plan for it ahead of time for it to be a realistic option.

However, I do love me some single-player campaign, since I commonly find myself in a place where online multiplayer is not a option. I'd be for single-player modes, but if the multiplayer would have to suffer for it, then I'd rather them focus on the multiplayer and try and get the campaign the next time around.

I would not be interested in a single player campaign, I would be interested in some offline levels that would allow me to practice skills for use in the multiplayer portion or levels that have challenges unique to Hawken.
This is a small team so spending time creating a story/narrative(which in most cases does not contribute to gameplay)  would be a bad idea.
It even end up constraining gameplay("Thats a good idea but it wouldnt make sense")

Maybe instead of a campaign type single player in the game, at least in this version - excluding dlc and expansions, it would be best to release it with something akin to the combat training mode on Black Ops.

That way it would give everyone a way to hone their skills as well as play when online multiplayer isn't feasible.

Hi there, some fresh blood on the forums ;-)

I think that for single player, the best solution would be starting off with a tutorial to teach all the important gaming mechanics in easy steps (including shooting static targets while moving, moving targets while moving, fighting drones, etc.). If there's any chance at a proper bot AI (even if heavily scripted), it would be great to have a way of creating training scenarios and posting them online for other people to test themselves against.

Also, I assume there will be leaderboards for multiplayer games - so there could easily be leaderboards for single player trials/tutorial scenario performance.

I've played almost every mech game ever  made and its about time we saw another decent one for PC people here are still clinging to mech warrior due to too many mech games being made just for consoles that being said i was forced to take my mech gaming to console to log my 2600 hours into Chromehounds before the servers were closed like happens to games not on PC.

Ok onto single player campaign is always nice and all but mech games tend to be better with a bot system using multiplayer maps thus lowering production cost allowing for practice and fun in times of no internet and to get back in the game. By re using the multiplayer modes and maps with bots you save money needed for voice actors and level design allowing you to make more for multiplayer such as weapons and upgrades and when new maps launch they can be added to the single player offline bot modes as well. Thats a win win in my book.  8-)

Mabe even add a multiplayer coop mode for online or LAN where its players on bots even all these options can get good usage out of premade multiplayer maps and allow for more content expenditure.
