Just wondering if you all have tested it under the new operating system yet?

Tested it, re-installed Win7 x86_64 Ultimate.
Due to bug-monitoring software, as it was the trial version, Win10 refuses to allow me to run some 3rd party software, specifically my targetting reticule overlay utilizing PlayClaw5. The "sneaky" snooping features of it also gives a bad taste, and the speed drop and load-up times are not good, to say the least.
Other than it being a M$ intrusively nosy mess, picky about software, and slower than XP, it works fine with Hawken. Didn't keep it installed long enough to give a really good, objective workout, though. I just plain didn't get the Oooo, Aaaaah, Feel-Goodz from it. YMMV
This was tested on:
AMD8350 @ 4.2GHz
GigaByte 990 mobo
FX7750 @ 860+1220 1GB
GSkill 16GB ram
2 x 1TB Barracuda HDD
edit: one really important warning--if you have a 3rd party full drive encryption for your OS, do a permanent decrypt of everything first, then back up the whole mess. i have True Crypt full system encryption, and Windows 10 ate my MBR during my first attempt to Update to it. That was NOT a good introduction.

IIRC HAWKEN ain't compatible with win 10. Someone made a post on the forums about it. But maybe things changed now IDRK.

If you have Windows 8.1 or Windows 7, stick with those. Windows 10 isn't worth it no matter if it works with Hawken or not.

Windows 7 support will be shutting down. So really have no choice. Didn't try it yet but will make sure my drive is fully backed up prior to install.

Security support is good until 2020 or somesuch, even though general software support ended in April 2015. If the ~20% of OS users are still running XP, and the majority of existing Win7 users have expressed no desire to move to the 8's or 10, M$ may have another 10 year XP-style debacle on their hands, with triple the size of XP crowd refusing to load up their adolescent eye-candy crap. If M$ doesn't yank its head out of it's anus pretty quick, it could soon find itself in serious financial difficulties, because I guarantee the Free & Open Source Software community is maintaining support of existing and newer hardware.
And you can't beat their prices.

em1o is right, you can keep using Windows 7 for a long time, even if Microsoft "drops" it. I only changed to Windows 8.1 because I bought a new laptop and was too lazy to change it/ddin't mind the newer OS, but my old laptop is actually still running on XP and works like a dream (as a crappy 6 year old laptop can dream )

More than likely, 10 will be broken, the version after 10 will be a fix.

Running on Windows 8.1 (which has never given me any issues, It pairs up nicely with my Windows phone), and from what I hear from the devs on 10, come July 29th if it ran on 8 it will run on 10, 10 will supposedly utilize a functionality that auto-determines the best compatibility mode (between 7 & 8, the user may still pick older modes, and disable this feature)
However, 10 will be the last version on Windows. 10 will be updated regularly in exchange for a new OS. so if you wish to wait you have until july 29th 2016 to nab it for free

I've been running it on my laptop that I'm also using for work and studies (dumb and potentially dangerous thing to do, better to put it on a VM if you want to test it out) and I'm liking it so far. Edge is pretty nice even in its unfinished state, faster than Chrome for my uses. I didn't like the new look originally but it's shaping up to something that's starting to look clean and a lot leaner than 8.1. The design language finally looks uniform throughout the OS.
I think it should be taken as what it is, a new base on which MS can build the future of Windows. People don't realize how much has changed behind the scenes on how Windows handles updates and feature changes now, they finally brought that into the 21st century. They finally had the balls to clean some bloat out and let some useless legacy stuff go. MS has shifted to a much more focused and fluent fluid (derp) development cycle and it's starting to show imo.

In all fairness, let me ask you this, "When was MS support for Windows (of any edition) useful for anything?" Microsoft "support" is nothing more than a series of pre-written scripts, to be read (or copied and pasted) by minimum wage employees, which do nothing but attempt to deflect blame for all problems onto the user, the hardware or third party software.
To be serious for a moment this is just a joke

I've did 10 since alpha. Been a MS dev since 95. (private contrator. no longer really do much but test stuff for them now) I've had 10 on both my machines. My main gaming machine and my HP one. They admit it was mostly achieved by combining 7 and 8. I like the balance. It works fine. I've pushed it. And yeah EM10, it does have some issues with 3rd party stuff but it is not RC yet, so we'll have to see where that goes. I will say it is rare. It works with almost everything which is pretty damn good for a new OS. Upgrades have always done that, lol. What i like most about it is the increase in performance. It runs about 15 to 20% faster on both of my machines. I was really surprised at the increase in performance on the older HP. It really made a quite visible increase in speed on the system. (especially in games) I've had 64 bit Vista on the HP. I've had several flavors of Linux on it. I have 64 bit Windows 7 on it now. The 10 is faster. So I have it registered and ready for upgrade to 10 when the time comes for that to happen. Now that said, I want to make it clear. How it runs on my machine is not how it will run on yours. With hundreds of thousands of combinations if not millions of hardware/software combinations, it will run different and have zero problems to a ton of problems on yours. That is how computers work.
If I take ten IDENTICAL machines down to the last screw (and I have literally done this) Same software, same install, same setup. They all will run similiar but not exactly the same. You can literally benchmark differences. As manufacturing techonology has gotten better the diffrence is smaller than it use to be, but still there.
So making the choice to upgrade is going to be your choice. I will be willing to try to help some of you as I have the time to when it does come out. Remember, I have a life, I'm old now and I like to play games. But I'll help as I can. Good luck and take care!!

The SSD optimizations are reason enough to move to the new OS (assuming you're using one). On top of that, there's DX12, which is surely a step forward in terms of graphics APIs.

Both my machines run SSD drives and yeah when they get around to doing games in it, 12 will be nice.

My finances are done from one machine. Internets another (this one), and my gaming rig is a third beast. That one *gaming rig) probably gets Win10, as long as Hawken exists...
I mean, without Hawken, what's the point of a gaming rig? I'll give it to my youngest daughter then.

Sigh. I'm pretty sure that DX12 could be made to work on Windows 8 relatively easily, but if this is the case with no chance of it being a timed exclusive, then I may upgrade since its free. Granted my current rig runs everything fine, so maybe I won't. ^^

Worth paying for? No. Especially before I was aware of the DX12 exclusive.
Dishing out money for a new version of Windows when the old one still work well, is supported, and you've gotten used to isn't worth it. Hawken will work with both Windows 10 and Window 8.1, that shouldn't be the deciding factor of it.
Now that I find out there it technology exclusive to Windows 10 I may start to reconsider a free upgrade, but my statement, especially at the time I said it, still stands.
No need to be brash about it mate.

Compatibility mode is hit or miss. Sometimes stuff won't in compatibility mode because something else is off. Microsoft get to work on that!
