So I decided to do the smart thing of updating my iPhone (yes it is slapworthy to do so I know), and on the final stage of updating it just stops and restarts. Only thing I see is a white background where at the bottom it says swipe to update, I enter the correct code and it starts to upgrade, except it doesn`t. It goes 1/3rd of the way and freezes. And I am kinda dependant on this phone, so I humbly beg you all to help me, because if not I am screwed.

Edit: it is the same problem described in this article, if any of you got said problem also. Not fixed yet though.

Have you tried turning it on and off again?

Ok so in your case sounds like plugging it into iTunes and doing a hard reset from there is the best solution. Hope you have backups ready.

Is it better than a Windows phone?

Because I don't like my Windows phone all that much. The only good thing about it is that it has beats audio for headphones (but not the speakers), but due to other limitations when it comes to playing music I can barely use it.

I miss my android phone.

Try and get it into DFU mode and then plug it into a PC with iTunes. It should recognize a problem and then try to fix it (may involve restoring it so you may lose anything that hasn't synced to your computer/iCloud account).

Smartphones are horrible and useless for pretty much anything but watching porn. Oversized screen, no buttons and pretend to be pocket computers so much, it can't even stay charged through the whole day (and often lag alot, freeze, or otherwise fail for no apparent reason). I know what I'm talking about, I've owned two in the past and heck, no more, at least not yet, not at this time.

I use this

46696_p_21.png

Dual-sim phone with hardware buttons, capable of making calls and sending text messages, battery lasts for weeks, it has a flashlight accessible by a simple doubletap (very handy) and of course MP3 player and MicroSDHC slot for entertainment. Zero freezes, super fast reactions, no updates required, no viruses being constantly cooked by bad guys etc etc. ;-)

I don't really get what's going on, how can anyone find current smartphones stuff practical? If they at least made them with keyboards, aka HTC Touch Pro 2, but nooooope, let's make bazillion of smartphones and make every single one look same as the other, big screen, no buttons, because it's trendy. And the only one who seems to get that seems to be Blackberry.

I'm 24.. But seriously, you wouldn't use a huge touch panel instead of mechanical keyboard when using PC, would you?

They make these phones so thin these days, I'd rather have a bulkier phone with sliding QWERTY keyboard, like the Touch Pro 2, it was an amazing device (well, except the OS). I'm all for fancy tech stuff, I do want something smarter in my pocket, but it has to be practical. If my cheap cellphone made for 3rd world countries does better job at being a reliable useful phone than expensive 2015 paddle that restarts itself 3 times a day, needs charging every day and after a year the battery is wasted so it won't even last a day, and you're lucky if it survives so long, what if it bends   yeah I suppose it's not reasonable to save my money for something more useful, like a laptop or PC upgrades ;-)

i dont really know what you have against touch screens, they havent made a qrty phone in the last 5 years is because no one wants them. and people do want a touch screen for their computer, it is called an ipad. i have had less problems with my iphone than my old qwerty phone. my iphone 5 is almost 4 years old and works just fine. battery life is good ect. your claims are fairly baseless these days.

iPhone 6 plus, 128 Gb. Had it since it came out. Best phone I've ever owned. Battery lasts 2 days on normal usage, keyboard is perfect and I'm using it to type this without looking at my phone, camera is phenomenal for being attached to a freaking telephone, screen is sizable enough to watch full movies on while I lie in bed (my Nexus 7 2 used to fill this role, but it's too clunky to compete even with the added screen size).

My only gripe is that the speaker is strictly on the bottom and that after a year or so the fingerprint log in seems to have lost its sensitivity - while it previously worked far faster than I could be expected to type in four digits.

Never had an issue with an update or really any software whatsoever.

It sits inside a $90 steel case and is still lighter and fits in my pocket better than my wallet.

While I'm not a fan of their computers because they lack the customization and functionality of Windows or freeware, bashing on iPhones is just, kind of stupid.

Apple makes good phones and they always have. If you really really need a million customizations that you're only going to use for a week to show your friends how special you are, by all means, buy whatever you want, but as a relatively tech forward community, running some sort of anti-Apple or anti-razer agenda is just silly.

Personally, my first android phone was my favorite phone. Lasted a couple years, was a good size, I could play emulators on it relatively fine, and at the time I had no PC (no, I couldn't afford to get a computer at the time, and the phone was given to me).

It had its problems but I do miss it so. It was my favorite phone. Every subsequent smart phone I gotten I didn't like as much.

While I do agree with you on some counts (I don't want a super thin phone, for example), I wouldn't wholly discount the usefulness of a touchpad.

And trust me, I'm not the type of guy who wants the best stuff when it comes to tech. I wish my laptop was a bit more powerful but aside from that I'm fine with it. And phones... as long as they work I don't mind a smart phone.

I have nothing against touchscreens, they're practical for navigating and everything... but not really for typing. I tried so many different software keyboards, most of them sucked for one reason or another. And classic qwerty software keyboards are the worst, so many buttons on so small place, it's just impossible for me to type one sentence without annoying typos.

This is the only software keyboard that has ever allowed me some quick typing without typos:

taptapkeyboard1.png TapTapKeyboard2.png

You press a button to show letters, then press a letter to type that letter. Yes, you need to tap twice in order to write one letter, but the required accuracy is reduced so drastically, that you can easily speed up your taps more than twice without errors.. after some getting used to of course, since this really isn't much common type of keyboard. Maybe something similar already exists for Android as well? I haven't checked in a while..

Yeah, I exaggerated a little about the battery stuff, don't take every post on internet so literally ;-) But still, 5% or 60% left at the end of the day, which one is better? Mathematically 60%, but practically both are the same, the phone still needs to be charged in order for me to know for sure that I have enough juice to get through the next day...

I had a p nice iPod Touch that I used to SSH into my computer and it operated pretty well as an emergency storage device, logging into uni computers and then transferring files again, doing a bit of coding or note-taking in Vim on-the-go, etc. I really like smart phones, but the choice between a reliable cell phone vs. a fun smart phone is mostly a tradeoff that each individual will have to make, since having both usually means not a lot of personal carrying space for other things (keys, wallet, hair band, sticky notes, change, hands) and having neither quickly leads to lots of "I sure wish I had X" situations.

Thank you for your time,

the typing on most touch screens is not bad, it is clear that you havent used an iphone for any length of time. or you just have massive sausage fingers that render most tasks impossible.

Day 2 of iPhone shenanigans.

So I decided to get the phone in DRU mode and recover and update the mobile from there, however now it seems that there is a single "push to update" page is the only thing keeping it from being almost done. I have been able to update and all that on the phone but this single page will not allow me to react with the screen. I will try to recover it again and see if that works.

Thanks for all advices and such, and Steve Jobs can f*ck off.

Nonono. It's not about my fingers. It's about the fact that 10 virtual buttons across 5 cm are a huge UX fail, because if I move or something makes me move my thumb or my phone by only half cm off, then I'll have a typo I need to fix. I don't want to stop walking, or get off the bus whenever I need to send a message.

4 buttons across 5 cm are not ideal, because I can still not feel the buttons literally, but it's much better, because I only worry about left edge, left center, right center, right edge, there's pretty much no way to miss and make a typo.

Never owned iphone, but I had pretty much most generations in my hands to try, because people around me have iphones. A friend even tried sooo damn hard to hack his iphone to try to "fix" various complains I had about it, lol. I guess I'm just hard to satisfy.

That is why I always type landscape, not portrait. Not having to press a button multiple times is the reason why I like touchpads on phones for typing over a phone numberpad.
