First of all:

1) I am new to this game, but I didn't find OK-Star servers for my level.

2) I decided to lauch quick queue instead because ALL servers got locked. Got into a match.

My team had NO high level players. All were around 25 levels. Enemy team had at least 3 30 levels with 1k+ hours (managed to look into profile pages ingame).

That "balance" happened 3 times in a row. I mean - an average team VS 1k+ players.

Is that HARD to place someone with 1k+ matches in OUR team? Cause, you know, it's not normal.

I do understand this game has low playerbase, but the ingame match-logic should at least not to play 3 30s vs all "new". It should give us at least one player of that kind. Srsly.

Levels don't mean anything. Even a bad player will get to Lv 30, it just takes them longer. Same with hours, long hours does not necessarily make them a good player, it makes them persistent. Take me for example. I'm an average player at best yet I managed to get to max level in about 25 hours (currently on 126 hours).

The match-making system in the game is based around your skill/scores and tries to group players of similar levels together. I've found that while there'll usually be a mix of high and low level players in the same match, the game does a decent job balancing out the teams (except those cases where there's only one high-level player).

Hello and welcome to Hawken.

I am just giving you these links, because I could not describe what happened to Hawken in the last three years in one or two sentences. The community has put a lot of work in these guides to help out newcomers and get them into the game. Yes, there are a lot of "stompy" matches and your complaints about the low playerbase are true. But without this so described "low" playerbase, the game wouldn't be here anymore. Hawken has a dedicated community. The majority are trying to avoid situations that you just described. Instead of going into public matches they meet on private servers, meet on the fightclub servers or just play a deathmatch to not mess up balance on public servers. But you just can't expect people to NOT play the game, because of a responsability for the experience of new players.

Also: Many new players are leaving in the middle of the game. Why? Frustration? Boredom? I don't know. But the matchmaker can't do its job when people join and quit a game. If you feel it is unbalanced, just stay on the server, play the match to the end and see what the matchmaking does next round.

And: The pilot level system is misleading. It is no indicator for skill. It will only unlock you some more internals and items and badges and stuff. Just try to stick to some simple rules and you will improve a lot in a relatively short time. See you on the Battlefield.

The problems with the current matchmaking system has been discussed a lot. The problem is, due to the underpopulation, the current developers are trying to allow for highly-skilled players to actually be able to play the game, allowing for a massive range of MMR (match-making rank). Unfortunately, the game is currently filled with long-term players which does not allow for very balanced matches for newer players.

As the people before me have mentioned, level is not a good judge on skill and any form of skill on this game should be determined by MMR - the number that the matchmaker uses when determining teams. Another problem is that the comings and goings of people within matches also unbalances games. If no one leaves during each of the matches (on a full server), I think people may be a bit surprised on how well the matchmaking works.

Until then, I can only say to give the game a chance. This game has a way of being infuriating when you are losing, but if you can work your way past that, I feel that you would enjoy the game to it's fullest extent the same way that many of us have. Then you will be able to see why, despite the game not having a major update in over a year, that many people still play it. :)

The difference between theory and practice is smaller in theory than it is in practice.
