I can see what you were going for. I get it. Balance out the teams and make sure that the high level players don't get matched with the low level players so the low level players won't get smashed. I understand.

However, here's a few problems with that.

Approximately almost every game I get into, it's a very one-sided match. One team smashes another anyway.

Another problem with this is that it makes it exceedingly difficult for high level players to get into games to where they don't see the same people every single time.

Server browsing is pretty much impossible because you are locked out of matches that are "Outside your skill level". Again, I know you don't want high level people smashing noobs, but..... isn't that how people get better at the game? The person who gets smashed learns from their errors and becomes more skilled as a result.

Look, Destiny tried this. It was known as the infamous "SBMM (Skill Based Matchmaking)". It didn't work out too well. It had to be toned down A LOT before it got to it's.... "intended" level, but it still has ridiculous amounts of problems.

I really believe that Rank Based or Skill Based Matchmaking should be removed entirely, and as a result, you get put into games with completely random people. That's what makes PvP games fun nowadays. Because you don't know what to expect before you get into the game.

Am I the only one who believes this? Write your thoughts. I'm genuinely curious.

EDIT 1: Alright, so I just tried to play this game with one of my friends who is rank 13. I'm rank 21. The matchmaking is so strict, that we couldn't even play together. When I tried to invite him, he wouldn't get anything, and trying to invite him through the Xbox system, it would be faded out.

He made a party of his own, and invited me. I eventually got it and joined his party. However, when he started a game on Team Deathmatch, he would join a game, but kick me out stating that "This game is outside of your fitness range."

This is ludicrous. No game should prevent you from playing with friends in a game simply because of your rank or skill. THIS NEEDS TO CHANGE IMMEDIATELY.

I agree with you.  I and others have said the same things since the first week this game was launched on xbox.  Sadly the developers do not care and have lost many players/customers due to this.

Apparently this isn't a problem to them.

Absolutely correct. It makes it very frustrating for those with the higher ranks, to the point that many have left to play other things. It's a topic that's been brought up from the beginning, like RollTide said, but unfortunately, at the rate things are being updated, a fix will be way too late.

I have not had much of this happen to me yet, but as I am addicted to playing and my ranking is improving, I'm sure it will eventually happen more often.  Hope your are wrong about the skilled leaving; I'm seeing some 450+ scores lately and it looked like they were having some fun.  I suppose winning that much could get boring, but I do love the challenge of going up against that kind of skill.

Perhaps the Dev's could beta test a server where ranking did not happen, just to confirm your hypothesis.  I have not seen a direct path to communicate with developers except the suggestions forum, but I'm going to continue to be optimistic thinking somebody reviews the posts for such issues.

Rank-based? The game rates you with an MMR (Match-making rating, PC highest scores were around 3000 MMR, I think) dependant upon your performance, taking into account many different statistics from your games. Im pretty sure that doesnt count as rank-based, correct me if Im just stupid but I dont believe Ive seen a rank-based MM system in forever and a half

I did say Rank-Based or Skill-based. MMR matchmaking could also count as skill-based matchmaking.

I have pretty much stopped playing bc of the server and party restrictions. I did notice when there were not any servers up when I searched manually if I just queued up for the automatic sever search it would eventually find a game. The games were always below my MMR, thus not making them fun. I like to play against people better then me so I can always get better. It is like the match making que will force you into a game outside the normal MMR parameters if there are not any servers available in your range.

THIS WAS BULL! I am his friend he was talking about, and in all my years of gaming I have NEVER seen a setup this bad. NO GAME I HAVE EVER PLAYED has done THIS. If the developers think this is Okay they have no brains at all. I WILL NOT PLAY THIS GAME ANY MORE TILL THEY FIX THIS!

Just as an FYI, Kirk is correct that it isn't a simple "rank" match-up and though pilot lvl may play into it, it's a collection of factors like k-d, w-l, accuracy and such. RollTide and I have been able to track the difference at times where we've been split so that one of us takes a loss and the other gets the win and then the next time we try to enter a game as a party, one of us is out of fitness range. Huge problem, but not quite as basic as just pilot lvl.

Not sure what's being talked about or consider as a "rank"?  Is it pilot level?  I have attained PL 30 and have no problems getting into a match with better players; sometimes I get the better of them 1v1 but rarely come out on top of the match overall.  Played against JamJambaler and got spanked pretty good, but learned a lot.  I play most everyday and have both DM and TDM fun without much of a wait.  Have not learned how to get into a party or respond to an invite, but get plenty of training against some really good players scoring 300 - 500 points a match; some really good challenging play.

I'm really sorry to read CT DARK and ROLL TIDE not getting the fun out of winning, but think I can understand shooting fish in a barrel is not as much fun as it sounds.  Either way it goes for me I'm addicted and will challenge anyone to outlast me at losing or winning; if winning it's fun training the newbies and for sure losing is fun trying to find a strategy with skill that defeats a good opponent.

See you on the battlefield unless you are flying a Predator.
