There are still times where mechs without a stealth ability will spawn completely invisible.  I've seen this happen with brawlers, berzerkers, and civs.  Once the mech is eventually destroyed it spawns again with normal visibility.  This appears to happen randomly and  I don't believe it is an intentional exploit.  I have screenshots but I would rather not post them because it includes player names of guys who play a lot and I don't see them invisible all the time.
