now that I have that out of the way, I also want to tell folks that this process is a little bit involved - as usual, the user must be careful when downloading software from the interwebz - make sure that you're downloading the right stuff. I'll provide links for as much as I can.
first, I would like to present some before and after shots:
first, you'll need to locate hawken. it's usually in /yourSteamLibrary/steamapps/common/hawken/binaries/win64.
be sure to make a note of this, as you'll be needing to go back there a few times during this process.
next - download an install reshade 3 ->
https://reshade.me/
reshade will walk you through the installation process, where it will ask for the location of the game. it will then offer some other shaders by default. it will then create another folder named reshade-shaders in the same location as the game.
reshade basically injects a shader into the exe when it runs, which is configurable. shaders do a lot of visual stuff, but I mostly wanted to brighten up the game. I didn't see anything I wanted in the defaults, so I grabbed a custom one off the web, and it does the trick.
https://drive.google...ew?usp=drivesdk
save that file and drop it into the reshade-shaders folder.
finally, settings -
by default shift-f2 brings up the GUI for reshade.
also, I didn't see any performance drops while using this on an RX 480 8GB.
