How about adding a button available for high-MMR players only, that remains inactive unless few/no matches are available in the server browser. Hitting this "Bring It" button would cause the matchmaker to ignore MMR restrictions and start a new match where the game is STACKED against the high-MMR player. This player's team consists of only himself or with 1 other high-MMR player. Only lower MMR players are pulled in to fill the enemy (low MMR) team only, with the MMR gain/loss tweaked or nullified completely for the match duration.

High-tier player picks the gametype (MA,TDM, etc)

Maybe even make it 8 vs 2 for those who have nosebleed-level MMRs.

edit......Post topic should read "High-MMR Players", not "high players". I doubt inebriated or drugged players are currently experiencing matchmaking difficulties. lol

edit 2... no offense to hestoned, ofc

edit 3... hey, full editor lets you change the Topic Title...

I don't care how bad they are. 8 vs. 2 is going to be hella hard. I like the concept,  but if decent players manage to get on the team of 8....it'll be horrible.

It could be a sliding scale, just adds players to the opposing team until the matchmaker decides 'enough' and flags it as a full server.

Might not be perfect, but at least you'd have a match to play in when the normal matchmaking fails, or until another 'normal' higher tier match becomes available.

I was thinking the 8 vs 2 scenario would be an exception to the rule. Just an upper limit, maybe.

Man in Black

Why should that make such a difference?

Andre the Giant

Well...you see, you use different moves when you're fighting half a dozen people than when you only have to be worried about one.

Intriguing idea
Rather then trying to make sure everyone has roughly the same MMR
The server could try to ensure that the sum of the MMRs from each team were equal
Top tier players versus a small squad would be fun to watch & try

I'd be happy with this, though at certain odds it's damn near impossible to win.  I'd be happy to do 5v6 or 4v5 tho.

This would be fun until the legions of smurfs join the team with more players.
