For me it is always been a matter of balance, but that can also very on the conditions you need to meet.  Mostly I would prefer the speed of a light, but you also need the brute force of heavy at times, and that is why I would go medium.  There will be times I'm sure I wish I was heavy to go head to head against an opposition.  Yet, maneuverability is important as it will allow you to avoid damage in some cases, and/or run away to fight another day if overwhelmed.

For me it would depend on the scenario , what roll will i be playing if i am the lead  recon, scout or simply acting as a solider. Which  I would choose any of the "3_" or however many classes there are with the specific loadout.

I haven't been able to play anything in the Alpha as of yet, I have been busy with the engineering program I got into and my new job at an aerospace manufacturing company. :T  But... if I could choose, I would pick a light unit, try to hide someplace up high, and blend in, take things out at long range.

Heavy, just for the defense, I don't need to move if you can't kill me, but I think it would be kind of hard to play like that.

Now for aesthetics (is this the right way to spell it_) I would go for light, I liked it.

I've got a preference for [Light+] / [Medium-] balanced classes. I like either a beef'd up light-class with upgrades towards bigger weaponry and defense or a medium-class with heavy enhancements built towards speed and durability.

Being a sniper I need to have speed and manoeuvrability to avoid CQC and repositioning myself for the next shot, that being said I prefer the Light mech.

It's the heavy that hasn't been shown yet.

Are you asking which we prefer in appearance or what you think we'll play as_  I loved what Chris said last night about the light mech in the g4 video.  Fast with all your points in defense_  That sounds like a lot of fun.
I like the assault with the speed build,in and out like a fuzzy bunny star and you can blow your tow!

I imagine I'll start of with the medium mech to get a feel for things and see how other people play the light and heavy mechs, which I suspect will be more specialised in their roles, like sniper or tank. Then I'll graduate into either the heavy or light mechs depending on my experiences with the medium mech.

Personally, what I will play will vary from map to map.  Most likely it'll end up being Medium with a bit of Light and Heavy if the situation demands.  I like to play what my team is lacking if necessary.

I rather Medium. But who knows which mecha I play with that can dominate the battlefield. ^(*.*)^
No matter what happens in battle. I will do whatever it take to win the fight. The battle might be diffcult to win but who knows one move can change the game. But one important thing I will like to ask you. How do I control this mecha_ <_<

I'm probably going to lean light, but I need some meat and potatoes in my mech! I'd prefer a medium mech that can hit hard and get out at reasonable speeds...

The speed man..

Haha, yeahhhh. Hope we have the opportunity to name our light mechs, I have a few choice ones from Watership Down in mind.

Mainly I want every movement choice available to me, especially sidashing, the 180 turns they described in a couple of the vids, and some heavy jump jet use. For game balance I would place a fair bet these will not be available on the heavies.

Speed is life!

They probably will just because not being able to chase after mechs at all vertically would simply put them at too huge a disadvantage. Having said that it would make sense if the heavies jump jets didn't have as quick a vertical acceleration as other mechs or reduced mobility in the air.

I think that it would make more sense if heavies have slower but more stable flight, whereas a light mech will shoot around like a missile; a heavy mech can position themselves, gain vertical height, and maintain it as a firing platform.

I'm excited to try all three with each of the different skill trees to find the perfect combination for each map & role. Going medium with speed maxed to start.
