I use it sometimes...
But I would prefer a back dash if I boosted in revers rather than the turn. Though that will be just unrealistic and would suck.

Just learn to ignore Shift+S ... that's all, I don't use it, so I just ignore it, lol

I find it annoy because of when I'm in sketchy situations and I am boosting and "bump" the S button, turning myself right where I don't want.
I'd be happy to be able to just disable the function.

I'd rather my mech do a dash/dodge backwards instead of a 180 turn

possibly have it configurable in keybinds for players to chose how to initialize a 180 turn or a dash/dodge backwards.

It's quite useful when an enemy appears behind you and you're repairing.

There are many :P

Mostly the debate is about should it be a 180 or back dash. Personally I prefer the 180, Plus our thrusters arnt properly angled for back dashes.

I think we can have 180 and some type of back jump or short boost.
LOL what if the mech leans way back_

Imo, I don't think having both would blend well into the control scheme. As one who uses Shift+ the most comfortable command for me would be double tap S for a short back dash, vice versa for double tappers. But if the devs do eventually make it so you can use Shift+ and/or double tap, like many have asked for, then this wouldn't fit comfortably into the controls.  Again just imo.

makes sense I like shift+ but i was thinking double tap can be 180 and shift back can be the boost but i see how this will not work and put some people at a disadvantage if they do not like shift+, this could work if you like shift+ 180 is double tap and if you like double tap 180 is shift+ _
oops

i have fuzzy bunny myself using it improperly, of course. but at the same time, ive 1 the fuzzy bunny 80'd twice in sticky situations, not only covering my ass twice in a short moment, but getting a triple kill in the process. i think it does more good than harm, because without it, turning around SUCKS

It's very useful on C-class mechs, due to the turn cap.

When you start getting skilled enough to use it in the middle of a battle, you can really start pulling some crazy fuzzy bunny. I use it ALL the time. Mostly so I can run away, turn a corner, do a 180, and pop a TOW into my pursuer's face.

If there could be an option to change the shift +s function back and forth that would be cool

It is useful in some situations (boost under someone jetting up, then 180 and getem wut wut, in dabutt!), but those are rare.  No point in taking it out.  Keep it for those few situations.

I think I have a lot of bad Armored Core habits that I'm killing with the 180's learning curve, really want to invest some time in learning the crazy stuff.

Keep it.

Air 180º turn ( if you wish, relatively slower than its current land maneuver) = Good.

I'll keep requesting, defending and testifying on this potentialand promising new move even before the Congress...

Turning around might be slower, but at least it's realistic. Insta180 is a fuzzy bunny control that should have no place in this game. Doesn't matter if it saves your arse, it should not be there.
We have limited fuel capacity, limited turning and forward speed but hey here's an instant 180 turn... My bunny!

A long time ago, I hated the 180 with a passion. I kept accidentally spinning so many times, and constantly died because of it. But now, much to my chagrin, I'm going to admit that maybe I was quite an inexperienced pilot at the time. Today, I regularly use the 180, simply because it is an extremely useful tool that more pilots should recognize and utilize. I've become proficient with the 180, through practice and patience, and have learned, some even mastered, only a mere glimpse of it's versatility:

-Before you initiate the repair animations, find a safe corner and 180. This limits the enemy from surprise attacking you in almost all directions when repairing, as being in a corner and having 180'ed enables you to observe with your camera the only possible route an enemy has to strike, and flee/fight much easier when necessary.

-180'ing during battle can also be a tactical move, thrusting forward or flight, followed by a 180 can turn the tide of battle. Your opponent might easily lost sight of you, or become confused.

-And much, much more. I'm still learning myself.

Although I still despise the occasional and fatal accidental 180.
