Think of it this way, that tombstone of a list of names you no longer see online got cleaned out for free.

Right, both good, bad, and players I still play with... Shouldn't I have the choice of who stays or goes_

Besides what we all would like to know... Dev's:

When will we get our friends list back_

Please nothing namby-pamby. A definitive answer please not another near miss we've grown accustomed to {aka: "we're working hard on it"}...
Players get restless and want clarity and something concrete.

Summary:

As players we are like your boss. We pay your wage.
Like your boss we expect positive results and punish/ridicule failure.
Failure to provide adequate results will lead to dismissal.

I think that's clear enough...

We have identified the problem and have begun our work to restore as much lost data as possible. Unfortunately, we will most likely only be able to restore friends that were added after July of last year. Any friends added prior to this time may not be fully recovered.

As you know, we have been performing major work on our services in order to improve online stability. Whenever work of this magnitude takes place, there is risk involved. We do everything we can to avoid events like this and we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience.

That's not the only issue.. I'm still experiencing failed sync errors every time I purchase a mech rank upgrade; I get logged off and need to sign in again. Any clue on that one_!

What is preventing friends from before July being recovered_
Only friends after July sounds odd to me...

I can understand having to deal with corruptions of data and what not... but why wasn't a full backup kept separately_  And will a backup be kept from here on out to prevent such a loss in the future_

advice i got from bug-report about 3 months ago, was to doc my list of friends, delete all of them from hwk, and re-add them. immediate corruption barf-relief. heh.
