In my entire gaming career, I have never encountered a game that I rely more heavily on sound in. I usually hear cloaked mechs before I see them, and get called a hacker because of it. Oftentimes I will follow a mech that I have damaged, wait to hear them repair, and then boost in and alpha strike them. Many of my moves and tactics would not be possible without the sound being the way it is.

My question to everyone is twofold. First, what sound system do you have for hawken_ I have a logitech g930 headset. And second, how does sound affect your play style_

I'm really interested to see what players from all MMR ranges have to say about this, and I'll be hearing you on the battlefield. Merl out.

Stereo desktop speakers or g930 headset. Depends on the occasion.

Also have a g930 headset. I use sound as much as I use radar, maybe even more so. You can hear abilities being activated, a charged heat cannon humming from around the corner, footsteps, items being placed, jumppads, someone hovering out of LoS, vulcan spinning up, incoming grenade, hologram humming (rare they people use it and the visuals give it away anyway). You used to hear secondaries reload signalling that they were now off CD, kinda disappointed they took that out, lol. I'm sure I'm leaving some out but those immediately come to mind.

As an infil I learned to rely on sound a lot against other stealthed enemies and since I have such low health since the steam patch (_) it's pretty much nessessary for my playstyle. I don't know how people play without headphones, they pick up almost everything and it's easy to pinpoint.

Using a pair of Audio-Technica in-ear headphones, it gives very good audio for $50 headphones, and for a mic, I use a second hand mic/headset that probably cost $5 but it works and that's all I care about.

I use speakers.

Works for me, unless I've got music in the background.

I have turtle beach z-something. If i turn it up enough to hear foot steps or repairs through walls all the other sounds painfully loud. Color me confused.
On second thought let's not go to #hawkenscrim. Tis a silly place.
Watch me pretend to be good at Hawken (Twitch).

cheap headphones, but all the sound still comes through in perfect stereophonic positioning and I can hear where things are coming from fine.

Expensive headphones here - Beyerdynamic DT 880 Pro. I rely on sound in game very much and love all this layers of loudness in Hawken.

Here you will find a tip for best settings regarding audio:

I use the logitech Z906 speaker set. I usually see opponents before i hear them though. I always keep an eye on my minimap so i can see where ppl are fighting or where the enemy team is located.

SoundMax Onboard Soundcard in combination with my good ol' Sennheiser PC 161 headset. Granted it is pretty battered on account of it being more than 6-7 years old and the microphone did break after it was base jumping without parachute from my desk several times but it still is the best headset I ever bought.

First thing I did in the game was turn off music in the audio settings and I rely pretty heavily on sound too. Mostly on sounds Sylhiri mentioned. It's pretty satisfying winning a fight around a pillar against an enemy without even having to actually look at the radar.

Poopy apple earbuds. Get at me. And the right bud is significantly more quiet than the left, so please don't attack me from my bad side.

To anyone looking for a headset I would highly recommend the g930 or it's wired clone the g35. Simulated 7.1 surround sound is a beautiful thing.

A pair of ten dollar in-ear headphones. Heck I could play without sound and do just as good (I'm horrible at this game ).

Even as scrubby, wallhacking Predator, I absolutely require clear audio in order to play decently.

I've tried listening to music while playing. When I do, I get rekt so very hard.

Edit: For the record, I use a Turtle Beach X11 headset. For the price ($30), it is quite decent.
