Well I just updated to catalyst 12.11 beta 6 and same if not worse performance, dips into low teens. Guess I'm done for now until a patch fixes it. Damn it, I know I said I was done but I just want to get a few matches in before the beta 2 is over. I tried catalyst 12.10 and still same issues. Anyone with 7970 that has flashed to ghz ed. getting good fps_ If so which catalyst are you running_

At the beginning I was afraid my PC couldn't handle the game, so I lowered all settings to minimum right from the start. The game still ran sub par with low fps. Out of madness I cranked everything up to maximum. To my surprise it ran exactly the same. The same constant  "unsmoothness" was experienced.

Definitely this. Even on an nVidia card, there's some definite slowdown with PhysX - which, considering I have a 690, probably shouldn't happen. :P

even with an nvidia card_ that sounds weird considering nvidia made PhysX... they should really REALLY really optimize this game..

It's beta. Optimization is one of the last steps; getting the game running smoothly in terms of not crashing is more important than getting it running fast.

I'm running a mid-range PC and even on the lowest settings, my cpu starts chugging in battles.  The current state of the game is unplayable with ~10fps.  I don't remember it being this bad in Beta Event 1.

Q6600 2.4Ghz
4 Gb RAM 1066Mhz
Nvidia 9800GTX 500 MB
CPU and GPU are definitely closer to the minimal specs of what the game likely will be, so while you can probably get some improvement when they optimize, you'd probably want to consider upgrading both your CPU and GPU sometime soon.

(Maybe wait for Intel to launch its Haswell architecture next year before you do so.)
That's lower than 10 fps in combat.  Out of combat is just fine (~40 fps).  Usually code optimizations aren't THAT huge of a role so I'm not holding out hope it will get better.  My PC does perfectly fine with decent settings on almost every game so, upgrading for JUST THIS GAME wouldn't be worthwhile imo.

40 FPS would be playable, 10 is not.

I would indeed hope they will improve it, but I'd expect no miracles, and if they don't, you're facing the path of the upgrade.

Like RustyEyeballs said, not upgrading and passing on the game is a valid choice as well.

well upgrading your rig is making yourself a huge favor by being able to play the latest and future games not just this one...
