I heard they did this on purpose and that the mechs will look better in the open beta... somethign about the closed beta is for testing "huge" amounts of traffic and core gameplay.. we'll see i guess.

rumors have it they did it because a dragon bursted into there offices and said "these mechs look to damn good make them look like fuzzy bunny"
OT: i think they are holding stuff back since there is no NDA on the beta and they want to leave the good stuff for the open beta (in other words they want it to be a surprise)

At this point in time I'm confident that they are holding back most of the nice designs, which is why Open Beta is something to look forward to. Not like they're that bad anyway, though the default Assault always bring back a smile until they throw a TOW.

There are only a few chassis designs in beta so far. Still under NDA about aplha.

As a newb...I see nothing wrong. Maybe you get that or not. "We" see nothing wrong with the mechs. If they improve from now on....AWESOME!

This is a beta. It is very low on content (new mech designs) because we are testing the systems instead.
The devs have said that a lot more content is coming, and some old favourites from Alpha should be returning. Soon. Watch for Open Beta.

It's not the art direction I have an issue with. It is the mech revision and wondering why they did it.
