Ah, well this should've been posted in the Hawken board then, but that's ok.

We really dont know how much customization there is yet as the devs havent released that information, but there is a large thread called Customization (I think) in the Hawken board that has an ongoing discussion of what we would like to see in regards to different decals, and paint jobs, and weapon loadouts, and the general shape of the mech, and pretty much everything that can be customized.  You should check that thread out.

Id be content with a few dozen unlockable paint jobs and then a do it yourself pattern creator. Mech shape is kindof something u dont want to mess with just because players should be able to recognize all the mechs, buuuuuuuut id be kool if the mechs look slightly modded depending what you do to it, idk heavier arm support for heavier gun_ just a thought

You mean like the one from ChromeHounds multiplayer_ Was a pretty nice system, pity it was so easy to exploit and had all those balance issues and had the servers permanently closed down.

I'd be happy enough with what they have already;

I havent seen that vid before but theyre doing everything right! Defiantly keep the look of the mech and the statistics separate for freedom. Got a nice surprise with the trees and internal stuff. Back on topic tho, the paint was done better than most. The preset patterns are looking good, letting you change hues, nice, nice. If i get an actual pixel pattern maker with this ill do a triple heel click instead of a double.

I'm glad you like it Mike!  I'd really love to see the ability to add custom patterns as well.  I think custom decals is also something we're interested in.  At the moment we've had to focus on more pressing needs for the game, but maybe down the line we'll be able to get back to these.

Do you know of any games that are doing this already_  I'm curious to see how others have implemented it.

The rest is quite good and the palette of option is one of the best I've seen. No doubt about that but the point system is just awful. They have to improve on that. To be honest that system of allocated point sucked ass on so many previous games. It may work on some game types but it must be more sophisticated than just pseudo abilities.

Instead of point it should be different pieces and it should be applied to different game types. Besides we have to get into the game beta and see how it works. But with all honesty I'm not convinced. The other things are outstanding, mech selection, options, camera view and the load outs. Those are great mech custom options.

They have to get rid of that bad idea of ability points. It's just a big no.

Except the point system.

In the mean time... that's certainly true; MM.
The palete option is great and something that I'm definitely gonna have my fun with. :)

Minecraft does it.

I'd image something similar to spray systems would work. Basically you have an image file in your folder that gets sent to the server and saved for a match. During the match it shows up when and where it's called(in this case, your mech texture).

The only issue with systems like that is that porn sprays/skins become a thing. Vanilla servers and Admin bans can usually clean those up to a tolerable level though, so it's up to whoever is in charge on how acceptable a risk that is.

^True.

That's why we can't have nice things. That's why developers lock things up to evade bad designs and incongruous artistic integrity.

No really, GREW. Those individual pisses me off to no end. Their existence cause in my being borderline personality disorders. I can't stand them. I can't stand their mindset and attitudes. Those individuals ruin everything up and they ruin the artistic integrity and freedom on these games. That's why there are set of rules and that's why many developer want to keep their developing tools to themselves.

I want decals or stripes that shows how many enemies I've killed every game without dying, the romance feeling of pilots of  WWI like the Red Baron.  If the player chooses it, make it bright bright pink or red

awesome_ yes.

thank you jesus.

That vid is friggin sweet and shows us that games CAN be very good IF the devs really try.
I would appreciate some preset decals like above mentioned stripes and some main generic shapes, should be well enough for all kinds of players. If the clan option is available, the clanleader could also create a clan-icon for every members mech for a greater feeling of being in a team.

But as ppl complained before, it is almost a given that some little kids with no manners start to overload their mechs with insulting, racistic or pornographic icons just "to be cool".
If there are only generical shapes it should at least decrease the amount of offending icons one can create.
Same if you add a limit to the useable decals per mech.

Perhaps if decals had to be uploaded to a database first, so admins could approve them for use in the game_

Never underestimate the ingenuity of dicks on the internet... Hell, just don't underestimate dicks. People will go to great lengths to make themselves look stupid.

I would like to say that while I'm not a fan of that sort of thing in games, I consider most of the means to restrict the vulgar user created content to be a greater evil than just allowing it to happen. It happens, but it doesn't happen enough to restrict user created content systems.

Having to go through an approval system slows things down for everybody and can be a waste of time for the people that have to sort through them.

I say let the immature people be immature, just give us some admin tools to keep those kids out of our servers if we don't want them there. My two cents.

Also, in Crysis we had the option to give the Hud a preset color (military green, iceblue etc)
would be nice to do that here too and as it would be clientsided, it wouldnt cause any serverload at all

@arseface(lol at name xd)
i think you might have a point there, and i also dont think that approval system would work well for long (imagine yourself going through thousands of pictures every hour) but if they implement a kick function as means for such misbehaviour, this function could also be severely abused by tons of crykids kicking good players just for being better. i´d rather have some trusted players being "game moderators" who then lurk around the servers and look for such immaturity.

I'd rather host my own servers.
