If you've ever played any online video game (Hawken or otherwise) and you experience a sudden change in your position, where you suddenly are 15 feet behind where you were just a second ago (or similar), this is called rubber-banding and it's a side effect of the interaction between lag between the client and server and the client and server disagreeing about where you actually should be because of that lag.
