Why would they go with a publisher when there ideas would have changed drastically like diablo did when "Jay Wilson" come into the picture (sorry i had to name names lol). They should stay independent or whoever there with now and if it start to fail go with kick starter

I am not re-writing the whole plan that I had detailed. I did it 3 times and the dumb mouse back spaced and deleted it.
Basically just self publish. Sell Hawken in both DVD case and digital download. Let Steam be one of the stores that sells it even with their cut (that is for advertising and large captive exposure). then you can sell the products and spin offs on your own web site and make distribution deals with Amazon, best buy et al.
Selling digital downloads and physical copies(DVD) are not mutually exclusive. This way you do not compromise on your products integrity and keep more control. And on FTP look how SHK is on Steam and can be tied in via Amazon. Or too really be indie look at WOT's and their Amazom tie ins without Steam! So you should be able too propose any business and distribution plan you desire.

in my experience i feel that valve dose an excellent job of shipping out great games :3 every game i played by them i enjoy (not so much L4D and L4D2) but i also like the idea of people being able to publish and manage there own game with out a publisher in the way (and for the record fuzzy bunny EA they kill my fave rpg's and also fuzzy bunny Disney they ruined the future of some great games and layed off so many people!)
