Hawken's Art Style: Changes Coming?

When Hawken launched, it had a strongly established look to it.

The mechs were gritty and made of spare parts, while the maps were dirty futuristic landscapes similar to those in Blade Runner.

 

What I wanted to discuss is how you think bringing on new artists could affect the look of Hawken.

This new company has been a godsend for Hawken, but could it lead to an inconsistent style?

It's sort of like switching artists halfway through a painting, if you get my meaning.

 

Not to be pessimistic, it's just something I'm genuinely curious about.

 

 

 

P.S. whatever happened to Khang Le, the Hawken concept artist?

No matter what they make, the fact that they're different people means that some players will think the new artist's designs are wrong, either because they stayed safely within the established theme and were "boring" as a result, or because they added something new that seemed complimentary to the theme, but were too "radical".

 

All the same, I hope they're good too.

I was thinking the same thing today..... maybe they could hire Khang Le, as I see on his website that he is available for work. The artwork is what brought me here, I think it would be nice if the new developers could preserve that.

There's definitely plenty of Hawken laying around to keep it fresh for a while.
I hope the devs try to get in touch with Khang, though. It'd be great to see how he'd be able to help.


Pubstomping is a whole different strategic discussion, however, and usually just becomes an exploration of the ethics of dumpstering randos.

It would be awesome if they got Khang Le back on board. Love his page... don't know why I never saw that thing before... it's awesome.

Last I saw, when were trying to figure out what was going on with ADH, it looked like Khang had set up or was involved with other companies. He may have moved on to other projects.
