I just searched the forums for "Capture the Flag" to see whats been discussed and found nothing.

Sounds like it could make for some epic cluster brawls. Anyone brought this idea up before? This game mode would be cool to play!

Yep, has been mentioned before.  Unfortauntely, they are usually titled with CTF, which is too small of a word (three characters) for the forum to search for.

Search for 'capture' bought these two threads on the first page of results:

https://community.pl...onesjuggernaut/

https://community.pl...c-ctf-gamemode/

I know there are more as well, I just don't have the time to search for them right now.

IIRC, in the game files, there are signs that a CTF mode was being worked on by ADH before they closed their doors.

on this topic, what mechs do you guys think would be the best suited to a CTF style game-mode?

No, it hasn't been discussed. Argued, threatened, dev prodded, and proposed into throwing up on your shoes?

Yes.

Unfortunately, Hawken's class-based system wouldn't work all too well in a CTF environment.  How would faster mechs like the Scout and Raider be balanced as flag carriers?

Hawken's high TTK also makes it pretty easy for targets to run away and break LOS.  I think that a Base Assault or Bomb Plant (no repair, one life per round) mode would work a little better, based on the game's current configuration.

Perhaps in CTF the flag carrier receives a handicap after picking up the flag (slower movement, always shows on radar as a different color dot, etc) and its up the team to protect them and foster their movement to the completion zone.

Well, there's also been this thread.

If escorting little marine NPCs doesn't float your boat there's always the option of heavily-armoured and very slow mechs instead.

It has been discussed before and with unanimous opinion the idea is loved. I still think these are appropriate.

.

The difference between theory and practice is smaller in theory than it is in practice.
