just go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Hawken\Binaries\Win32\HawkenGame-Win32-Shipping.exe and place a Link to Desktop.
Voila! Instant Hawken immediately loaded up, with no Steam attached!

Uh oh...this is not good
Thanks I hope that works as the last few times I logged on through steam there was no one to play with. I sat there for a good half hour doing practice with AI just to play. It was like a desert. No fun all alone.
Massive spike is Steam F2P launch. Hawken only was slowly dying due to lack of development.
No, Sry look at those data, most people left within 2 month, no one expects a freshly released game to even change within 2 month 3 or 4. yet people more or less instantly left the game again. This has different reasons, don't blame the lack of developement. Other games have way less and keep a lt more players.
I left because of all the slow clog with Steam updates. I know how Steam is , just get tired of the long times before I can play, then hardly anyone to play with.
Don't want to be cannon fodder for the more experienced and better equipped players, but don't want to be a noob forever because i can't buy or get better stuff. Kind of a Catch 22. It was a great game, but lost something along the way. Maybe it will get better, but not sure how. That is just my opinion, cant speak for anyone else.
An option would be nice, but NO.
new MAPs first! then we can talk about alternate launchers.
I hate DRM and never purchase games on steam I only get it on GOG thus knowing I own everything I buy not like steam where you dont own anything. and I prefer to have one less client on my pc that does nothing useful.

Smoke this!
People were leaving hawken far before steam release was announced. Steam still gave more users than we lost because of it. There is nothing wrong with having steam as a platform.nope ask any of us old members they will tell you it was pretty bad and after that hawken died slowly after that

I don't think they do, but the issue still remains that it is twice as much work, twice as much bandwidth to push an update to two separate launchers. The effort required to a) build the launcher and b) maintain it, especially with a small development team, is not worth supposedly retaining a few players.
Especially when it is evident those players will continue to play Hawken through Steam.
I have to agree, multiple launchers would be much slower development time because it's spent on maintaining these launchers, the idea to move to steam was good, if people can't be bothered to install steam, then the likelihood of them continuing on in PC gaming isn't all that great. Considering we have Steam, Desura, Origin, UPlay, GOG Galaxy, there really isn't much out there in terms of standalone aside from crap that comes from GameJolt.
Steam uses maybe 500MB on install, and 100MB of ram when opened, if these "few people" can't be bothered then they should just give it up.
I don't feel that people that don't want to be bothered with Steam should just give it up...that might mean they would no longer be playing Hawken if there wasn't an alternative way to open the program. (which I guess there is)
I do agree with you folks that feel using Steam isn't an issue and creating a secondary game launcher would be to expensive and time consuming for the current development team. Seems to me just a waste of resources that would be better applied to other areas of the game that are much more critical at the moment.
People that want to play Hawken but refuse to do so because it's launched from Steam should really give it a try and might realize that it works well.
I've had some issues in the past with a few games not running properly on Steam and haven't to this day been able to get those problems resolved with Steam support (still kind of pisses me off)...but to be honest, I mostly play Hawken on Steam and haven't had any problems with it...runs just fine for me (except for the occasional lost connection at times after a match is completed)....Whether this is a problem on my ISP side or something through Steam or a server issue, I can not tell.
I've had my criticisms about using Steam at times, But I think one dedicated launcher seems to be the best and proper way to go and Steam over all works well and for the most part does the job. For me it's convenient because I can access everything the game offers right there.

Linux port.
would love to see it, but it'll never happen. there a some financially massive obstacles in the way of this.
I like going against the best of any game I play. Helps you in the long run n motivates u to do more. Always room for improvement not failure
